Thanks Don. Will attempt to pull broken shaft out of needle and see if I can silver solder it back together. Unwound the spring from shaft and it just might kind of work. Going to go to clock repair shop and see if I can come close to the right spring after that. Called several Repair shops and they only want to do Restorations at $300 a pop. Mines a daily driver; every day since I put it back on the road. Just don't want to get a ticket driving through a school zone or something.

Fully disassembled, cleaned, painted and put back together with the old spring. Doesn't function well but it does give a jerky, rough indication of my speed. Clock shops localy no help at all. "We don't sell parts" "We don't work on speedometers" and my answer is "You don't get the repair work on my Grandfather clock". Had two jewelry shops that offered to help but they didn't have a spring large enough from their watch repair items. Will keep looking on line for a comparable spring and may take a look in salvage yard for older Mopar instruments. The quest continues............

I will check. I think the one I have like yours also has a broken needle though. FYI there were two different suppliers of speedometers for p15s. Installed they look the same but they have a totally different mechanism.

The coil spring in photo 4 that seems to get wrapped around the shaft on a lot of these old speedos. Many people are sending this off for high dollar repairs and I have found a source for this spring. www.brattons.com Part number 23082 Waltham round mainspring @ $10.15 plus shipping. This is a Model A part but seems to be working OK. I can adjust the tension a bit better but it seems to be fairly close just out driving arround the block. The tension adjustment is for needle movement and return; does not adjust for gearing or tire size. I may also have a line on some replacement numbers for the odometer. Will let you know. If I can rebuild this unit then anybody else can do it too.
