Rodney Bullock Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 In this world of internet as the world gets smaller and smaller. We will meet alot of mopar parts people. Yes somebody will take his place and so on. Building a relationship with a guy half way accross the continient is hard. I bet alot of you guy's that have those prewar cars know this better than anyone. When we are taking a look at private parts collections that are not on the internet(they do exsist) These folks don't have to sell to anyone. This is where your parts are, They are hard to find. Here was a guy that was willing to sell to you. That's all I am saying. Roadking your statement was dead on.
Andydodge Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 And if you guys think getting mopar parts and keeping your car on the road is tough in the USA, try it where there was/is virtually no one selling old mopar parts or having the knowledge of what fits what...............my 1st dealings with Andy Bernbaum was in the mid 1980's, there was NO ONE in Oz that I could find that had a rebuild kit for a Cast Iron Torqueflite.......Andy B did, knew what i wanted and sent it to me........promptly..........sure he was sometimes grumpy, so what, we all can be, but in my dealings he knew his stuff.............anyway............life would be very boring if everyone we meet had the knowledge of the 17yr old at the local parts store..........Andy Douglas.
Big_John Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 While I haven't dealt with these guys that much, I believe the business was sold back in late November. I called in December and in talking to the new owner, he said he had installed a new computer system and software after buying the business. I think Andy may still be there, at least for a while. Businesses are bought and sold all the time and it's not unusual for the owner to stay around for a while until the new owner has everything under control.
Steve's 36 Posted January 21, 2012 Report Posted January 21, 2012 I would like to apologize to the users of this forum and Andy himself for trashing him in my earlier post. After a good nights sleep, I've realized there is one thing worse than bad phone manners and that's bad computer manners. On a forum of friends and fellow hobbyists. Peace:)
49 Dodge Dude Posted January 22, 2012 Report Posted January 22, 2012 It's funny to hear the "sugar coating" of this guy. I say good riddance. I am looking forward to better manners and a better web site. I hope the new guy can bring this company into the 21st century. I've been dealing with the general public for over 25 years now. There are two skills needed - one, knowledge of what you're selling, and two, making the customer feel welcome. It's ok to have one, it's vital to have both.

Peace in deed.
james49ply Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 I have delt with Andy, I am a person of direct questions and answers, so is he, we got along great.
48Dodger Posted January 23, 2012 Report Posted January 23, 2012 I bought quite a bit from this guy...I did not know he was so controversial! Good for him. 48D
Jim Saraceno Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 I didn't mind the curt answers I got, I did get annoyed when he sent me the wrong parts and then insist they were the right ones. He always refunded my money but I had to pay for shipping in both directions. He carried parts for my '35 I couldn't get anywhere else and for that I've been grateful but I knew right from the start of the order that it would be a crap shoot. Maybe he was more knowledgeable about the cars from the 40s but he could be sketchy with his knowledge of my '35. I don't think anyone is saying they would be happy if we lost a supplier of our hard to find parts, I think some of us are just happy to deal with someone else.
meadowbrook Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 my experience with andy was hot and cold. some good parts, but brake parts are so inferior in quality as to be dangerous. i know that from experience. i did actually buy a car from him, a 1954 chrysler windsor deluxe convertible. he was one of the few people i have dealt with who gave an accurate and honest description of the car on the phone. i did pay a little too much for it, but it has been a good car, i still have it, and i am glad i bought it. he was pleasant enough in person when i went to his place to buy it. capt den How were his brake parts inferior? Were the shoes bad? I bought a set and my car has really poor braking in that they require a lot of pressure to stop the car. Maybe it's the nature of the beast, but I wonder...
fstfish66 Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 well i never selt or talked to him,,but i was thinking i would be in the near future,,,im sure he had a ton of knowledge on mopar parts and will be missed by a lot of people old and new,,,some one needs to keep our parts flowing,,,,i can only hope to make retirement,,,good luck to AB
Powerhouse Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 I just got all brake shoes and one hose from them and had a very pleasant/professional experience. I wondered what was different? All parts looked VERY nice. Not installed yet....but soon. I wish Mr.B luck and good health, it always seemed like it was a hassle to do business for him.
RALPHDEI Posted January 24, 2012 Report Posted January 24, 2012 Andrew bernbaum has sold out, its owned by a nice gent named chris now. A new era has started. Good Riddance, I hope the SOB dies.
