JIPJOBXX Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 Thought this would be interesting to up put up on this board. Its an abandoned Wells-Fargo bank that located about a city block from a good friends old old house built in 1885 by the stage coach driver of this little hamlet. The name of the ghost town in Campo Saco and it is located in the gold country of California. Notice the steel door? boy they built them solid back at the turn of the century. Anyway interesting photo and I hope someone here enjoys it. Quote
TodFitch Posted January 11, 2012 Report Posted January 11, 2012 I can't find a "Campo Saco" in the Gold Country, but I do see a "Campo Seco" north east of Stockton. A bit south of Ione. Wells Fargo had both banking and express services way back then. Given the valuables that they stored and transported it makes sense that they'd have a pretty secure facility in each town they did business in. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted January 12, 2012 Author Report Posted January 12, 2012 (edited) Yes it is north east of Stockton. The area at one time had over 4,000 gold miners but when that petered out then they turned to copper of which was abundant in this area. The population today is about 28 people and a whole lot in the ground in three separate cemeteries found in town. Interesting is that I have visited the grave site of the original owner of my friends house and his kids are buried there and I think there grand kids. Here is a picture of Doug's house and if your ever in the area do stop by as he love visitors and he has a lot of neat old cars and hot rods! The one below the house is one of his cool cars a model A and a sweat young Santa's helper standing next to his A is one of his neighbors. Look closely at the model A and you will see a full race four banger and he has had this since his high school days. Edited January 12, 2012 by JIPJOBXX Quote
