old rat 49 Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 Couldn't find anything on the throttle linkage ball joints. Is there a way to take the play out of them ? Quote
randroid Posted December 7, 2011 Report Posted December 7, 2011 old rat 49, Ball joints get sloppy when they wear out and become elongated and there's no adjustment that will make them round again, but replacements can be found through some hardware stores. Lacking that resource you could check with a local hobby shop that handles radio control models. R/C models have gotten bigger and more complicated and the ball joints used to control moving parts have grown along with them and become easier to find. If you don't have a hobby shop near you look in the ads in model magazines and check their web sites; you should have little difficulty replacing them. -Randy Quote
old rat 49 Posted December 7, 2011 Author Report Posted December 7, 2011 The rod ends on the throttle linkage are not made to come apart. What I did was to spin the ball joint in the coupler dry with my drill to help round it a little then oiled it. Using a vise to hold it i tapped on the end of coupler untill i could not feel any excesive play. Spun again and tapped again. Almost zero play in those three ball joints now. It really tightened up the linkage quite a bit. Am going to work on the other pivot points later. Quote
old rat 49 Posted December 7, 2011 Author Report Posted December 7, 2011 Found a piece of old steel brake or fuel line that will fit over the stud sticking up out of head that the arm pivots on. Will fit that on and open up the holes in arm with drill and that shoud take care of that. Did notice that the C clip that reatains arm was missing. Hope this Fix helps someone else. Just the first fix gives much nicer throttle response with engine running. Quote

old rat 49 Posted December 8, 2011 Author Report Posted December 8, 2011 Drilled out the arms and installed a sleeve on pin coming out of head. Everything is good. Just need to go grab that C clip. All told maybe an hours work but it does make a difference. Quote
