Looking for service manual/ assembly manual for 50 Plymouth

Is that a good one to get? Does it show me everything I need to know? I'd really love to find an assembly manual like I have for my 57 GMC.

I got the Service Manual for my '52 Dodge. It has a lot of info., but it doesn't have everything u need to know. It's definitely worth having, but it is not the silver bullet. This forum is probably the most helpful resource I have found.

To supplement the service manual, the parts manual has lots of pictures of explded assemblies. Helps when you are trying to put something back together that has 40 pieces.

Does it show me everything I need to know?

Not being sure what everything you need to know is so I suggest you have a look at MoTors Manuals that cover the year of your vehicles. They contain a lot of useful information and cover several years and several vehicles. They can be found on E-bay at a reasonable cost.

I have also found that there isa also a great deal of information in the various RATE Books that the independent gargages used.

They cover various years and also list some of the major parts and also part numbers and there is a section on the general repairs for the various manufacturers.

Manuals usually cover a range of years, since these cars are basically all the same throughout a certain period. Some companies produce cheap photocopied versions of the originals and while the print is readable, the diagrams are really crummy and you can't make anything out. Take Jim Yergin's suggestion and go to the main page of this site. There are lots of vendors out there.

I have the '46-'54 manual, and it is really very useful. It doesn't show exploded views of everything, but it's pretty good. You can figure out just about everything you need from it. These old cars are pretty easy to figure out with a little help and some studying. This manual also has some overdrive info. It has been MUCH help for my '50 Plymouth.

The postwar factory service manuals started with the P15 and kept adding years (and updating as needed) as they went along, with a different cover each time. There was a '46-'50, '46-'51, etc. The '46-54 is the one that aftermarket publishers chose to reproduce because it covers the most years of pre-V-8 Plymouth.

In addition to the factory and Motor/Chilton manuals, there were two hardcover books that also had useful information. They were 'Fix Your Plymouth' by Bill Toboldt, and the 'Popular Mechanics Manual for Plymouth Owners'. I've accumulated them all over the years, and each one has some unique pieces of information that make them worthwhile. The hardcovers still pop up occasionally on eBay; I got one for free off Craigslist a couple of years ago.

To my knowledge, there aren't any Assembly Manuals for Plymouth, but they do exist for Chevy and (I believe) Ford.
