UKPlymouth Posted April 14, 2007 Report Posted April 14, 2007 You may have seen my earlier posting about my 'lost sparks'. This was really getting to me - you know when you start doubting everything you do. You've checked everything so many times you've lost count. Your knuckles look like they've been manicured by a butcher and your chest hurts from leaning over the radiator to turn the engine to do the timing. On top of this I really wanted to go to the first real meeting of the year (for American cars) where I actually won Best Classic two years ago. Have a look at the photo. The two parts arrowed were making contact and earthing out the wrong side of the points. Now my butt hurts from getting the wife to kick me so hard! They reckon the day you stop learning is the day your dead. I sure learnt a lot today, yesterday, day before and the day before that - just wished I'd learnt quicker! Thanks for everyones input on the previous post and the 'Queen' shall go to the ball......I'll try and post some photos. Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 Garry; Glad the African Queen is once again alive and well. Look forward to the photos! Quote
greg g Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 Its such a simple thing ain't it, that always does us in???? Glad you found it. Represent the Plymouth Flag well. What was the phrase?? "Plymouth builds great cars. Great Service keeps them that way!" Now you can brag you are a master technician for being able to track down and electrical gremlin. Just don;t tell them about the trial and error stuff and all the blind alleys we sent you down...... Quote
Normspeed Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 Great diagnostic work. The flathead 6 distributor is one of those areas where assembly and arrangement of every component, conductor and connector is critical. Really helps to pull the distributor out and go through it on the bench. Hope you can post some photos of the event. Quote
