I went to a junk yard today and tried to remove the emergency brake cable. I discovered the end that is at the pull handle is the same but the other end is different? Both cars are 1950 dodges ,one is a four door Cornet and my car is a two door wayfarer. My car has a band that compresses on a disc and the junk yard unit has a ,what looks like a brake drum, bolt to the output of the transmission. I did not have a large enough, looks like inch and a quarter, socket to get the drum off and I'm not sure I could change or fit it on my transmission, so I gave up. But the drum brake looks like a better idea as it is more sealed from the environment. My question is,will the drum assembly fit on my car or can I find or buy what I need to fix mine? I will need a cable and a new brake band . Any help would be muck appreciated.I also have to replace the master cylinder. Is there a dual well unit that would fit where the original is ? Just wanting to make it a bit safer. Dan

Your Dodge Wayfarer is a 3 speed trans and the junk yard Dodge car with a brake drum at the rear of the trans is the M-6 Hi-Lo range Gyro-Matic. The cables won't interchange. Also you don't pull the drum off to release the cable on that junk yard M-6. You open the little cover plate and use a hook to pull the cable end ball off the little brake lever inside of the brake drum. The M-6 won't swap over easily either-don't bother with it.
