Young Ed Posted November 16, 2011 Report Posted November 16, 2011 John both mine were put in with sealant and still torqued to spec. 50ft lbs sounds way too low. Quote
JohnTeee Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 (edited) @martybose - will definitely get the re-torquing in. @Young Ed - I was concerned that it might be a little 'light'. There has been some discussion on lubricants and torque in the forums, which led to my question . . . Head gasket sealer Re installing the head Stud Question U.S. BOLT TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS Maybe I'll split the difference? <grin> Cheers! John Edited November 17, 2011 by JohnTeee Clean up link Quote
John-T-53 Posted November 17, 2011 Report Posted November 17, 2011 Fel-Pro is the only brand I've gotten at NAPA and I use the Permatex "Copper Spray-a-Gasket" sealer on both sides of the gasket before installing. I've heard you can also use a metallic silver paint (?). These two were recommended by my machinist. Teflon tape on the head bolts completes the sealing deal and you'll have no problems as long as the surfaces are flat! I switched to ARP studs with fine thread nuts. Torqued to 53 ft-lbs hot and all is well. I usually re-check the torque at oil changes just for peace o' mind. Quote
