47heaven Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 When I was restoring my P15 about four years ago, I bought and installed a new electric 2-speed wiper motor. It worked great at both speeds. About two weeks ago, I was driving and the wipers just turned on automatically by themselves. I tried to turn them off, but to no avail. I would turn the switch on the slow speed position and then to the fast. When I switched to off, they still stayed working at slow speed. I finally had to pull the fuse to shut them off. When I was testing them, I noticed that after 10 mins. they would shut off, but after a while they would go back on. Anyone have an idea to what could be causing this? Quote
TodFitch Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Bad switch or short... Do they have a self-parking feature? Might be a bad or mis-adjusted micro switch that is cycling the motor to try to bring it to the park position. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 Restored with electric wipers? For the wiper motor to run it must have electrical power. What is the source of this power? I suspect the switch is at fault. If they cycle off and on after 10 minutes or so I suspect there is an automatic circuit breaker built into the system that heats up and opens the circuit then cools down and closes the circuit. Quote
Rusty O'Toole Posted October 30, 2011 Report Posted October 30, 2011 If they are self parking I would suspect the parking switch in the wiper motor, if not I would go to the switch. In other words it sounds like a switch issue of some kind. As a long shot it could also be wiring shorted out but this is much less likely. Quote
