Todd B Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 We took my semi to the local supperclub just 2 miles down the road. we were there for 3 hours and I went to start the truck and it spun 5 times (very unusual) and the batterie was dead. One of the locals jumped me (with a Ford, sorry) and I left idle for another cocktail. we went to leave and as soon as I would pull my light switch the truck would want to cut out. The lights were very dim. I tried to rev high enough to leave the lights on but it keep on wanting to cut out. We bummed a ride home and will retrieve in the morning. I am thinking alternater. The batterie was new this spring. Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 sounds like the alt is not ouputting..do a voltage check if you have a test meter..do not rule out the battery..I got a top of the line 5 year free replacement battery..about 10 months later that sucker was **** up..internal short..charge over night..appears good drive the car..got stranded, not really Ihave a emergy jump starter I carry when probs are suspected)..seems it died quicker sitting idle....I did run a alternator test and all looked good..I did a current drain test suspecting body control module malfunctions and found none..I swapped the battery with another 7 year old battery here and no more problems..took the new battery in for free hassle-free replacement. Todd B Posted October 22, 2011 Author Report Posted October 22, 2011 I just got home with the truck. I am starting to believe it may be the batterie. I used my portable jumper and would barely spin it. we had to hook the portable and baterrie jumpers to my wifes car, wait a few minutes and then it finally had enough power to spin and start. When I entered my driveway I tried the light switch and immedietely cut out. You push the light switch in the truck refires and keeps going. I was backing the trailer up to park for winter and it snubbed. I have absolutely nothing now. Quote
norrism1 Posted October 22, 2011 Report Posted October 22, 2011 We used to disconnect the battery after getting it started. If it quite, alt. or VR is bad. If it ran then bad battery. Can't do that with newer vehicles now as closed loop. Quote
