1940plymouth Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 I know this is way ot for this site, but I had to share. We bought a '51 4dr DeLuxe Chevy for parts four or five years ago. Once we got the parts we needed, I suggested to my son to make a UTE out of it. He used the air hack saw to accomplish it, then it has basically sat since. Well, this past week we put it back in the garage and he has been working on it in the evenings. Just had to share, hope you all don't mind me doing so Bob Quote
Robert Horne Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Great project Bob. A friend of mine has a 51 Chevy 4 door, he is going to paint today. I was thinking of cutting my 90 Chevy "many van", (15 passenger) similar to what you have done. Quote
JerseyHarold Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Interesting project. Did Chevy ever make utes for other markets like Chrysler did? Quote
1940plymouth Posted October 16, 2011 Author Report Posted October 16, 2011 yes, they were made in Australia long before they were introduced here in 1959 Quote
randroid Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Bob, Just a thought but since the trunk lid hinges are there have you given any thought to making it covered? -Randy Quote
1940plymouth Posted October 16, 2011 Author Report Posted October 16, 2011 Randy, The game plan as of now is to cut the hinges off, but he may change his mind Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 Hay you've got talent!!! Never did anything like that but way back when I was young my brother I sawed the roof oft a 38 Packard and made it a convertible. Packard guys just cringe when I say that! Quote
1940plymouth Posted October 16, 2011 Author Report Posted October 16, 2011 No it isn't me with the talent, it is my youngest son Shane. I am the bank when it is necessary:) Quote
oldodge41 Posted October 16, 2011 Report Posted October 16, 2011 That is a cool project. When I was a kid my uncle had an early sixties Imperial that was made into a pickup. My dad claimed it would out haul any pickup truck he ever had. Quote
