P-12 Tommy Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Be aware! Everybody better tie your stuff down if you live along the east coast! I'm hoping Irene will go a little farther east by Thursday! I moved a bunch of stuff outta the way so I can get the P12 in the garage. I don't want the windows to get blowed out. I got my plywood and tapcons ready if need be! Tom Quote
randroid Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Tom, Last I heard Irene hadn't made landfall anywhere, not even Honduras, so this is news to me. Perhaps by being a northern storm the effects will be minimal. Perhaps by living in Colorado I have only a passing interest in my immediate perils from an Atlantic hurricane. I certainly wish you the smoothest ride you can get. Good luck, Tom! -Randy Quote
Niel Hoback Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Oh boy, I'm going to Fredericksburg Va. for next week. Now I've got something to look forward to. Woohoo. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted August 23, 2011 Report Posted August 23, 2011 Supposed to hit either Florida, Georgia, or South Carolina. Could be a big one. Quote

I burned a lot of yard/bush cuttings yesterday and will finish that chore today. Then it's put all the outside yard equipment up and tie down all the miscellaneous goodies piled onto an old flat-bed trailer outback. My Dodge is in her 20' shipping container, nice and snug and very happy! Last week I put some new weather stripping on the cargo doors and patched a few leaks on the container's roof. Went shopping late yesterday for more can goods, etc, loaded the water jugs and igloos and ordered LPG for the house generator. The shutters are in my small shed, I'll wait till Wedsnesday or Thursday before dragging them out and having to hassel with installing them them for 1/2 a day. Now the wait begins. Maybe Irene will turn further eastward and miss the state. Good luck to us and our friends and neighbors in GA and the Carolinas. Frank Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted August 23, 2011 Author Report Posted August 23, 2011 As of this morning it says it will graze us and have a direct hit on the S.C. and N.C. border possibly as a Cat 3. The high pressure system in place is starting to break down making Irene going off to the right a bit. I wish it would fizzle like Emily did but...... I hope the best for everyone in that area. Cpt.Fred Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 Good luck to all of you! what i can read in the german news doesn't sound too good, but hope fully it will slow down a bit. they just said it is turning right and will hit North Carolina. Quote
busycoupe Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 I am in North Carolina on the western edge of the Pamlico Sound, near the city of Washington, NC. They tell us to expect winds of 60 to 90 mph and about a foot of rain. They say we are likely to lose power for a few days. I've got the coupe in the garage, all the yard stuff picked up, gassed up the generator, groceries and beer stocked up. I guess we are as ready as we can be. Now we just have to wait it out. It is clouding up as I write, the rain bands are supposed to reach us around 3 pm. Everyone take care, Dave Quote
Mark D Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 Same goes for us back here in Mass Dave - heavy winds & a foot of rain is what they're saying. Hoping for the best here. We'll look for your posts, let us know when its blown by you. BUT its not getting here until tomorrow afternoon for us, so I'm off to my regular cruise night tonight. Quote
busycoupe Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 Its pouring now. This is a little different than the storms I'm used to in Mass., but I keep telling myself; at least I don't have to shovel it! Dave Quote
58prostreet Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 Starting to cloud up now in Virginia Beach. I'm about 5 milesoff ocean front. My lot was originally 6 ft. above sea level. Brought enough fill and sand to get to 13 ft. and I'm on a 3 ft. crawl. Hope it's enough. I've fueled generator and all vehicles and got my '52 Wayfarer and '58 Ford in the garage. Got all the loose stuf up and stowed. Now it's just wait and see. Bob Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted August 26, 2011 Report Posted August 26, 2011 I'm resigned to being without electricity for a few days. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see any way out of it. I know trees are going to be coming down and I hope one doesn't fall on our house or on my garage where the Plymouth is. I have a book and plenty of candles. Here in the DC area we're supposed to get it starting tomorrow afternoon. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 Here in Fredericksburg its starting to rain pretty good and a little windy. It just looks ominous, but so far its not bad. Sure glad I brought the new car instead of the old one. Just one more bonehead stunt on my record. Quote
Chester Brzostowski Posted August 27, 2011 Report Posted August 27, 2011 I think I am going to get pounded pretty good. My Delaware home is 11 miles from the Delaware Bay and 23 miles from the ocean. I am not worried about flooding because we are about 40 ft above sea level but I expect some serious wind damage. Pat, After experiencing minor storms in the VA. D.C. area I purchased a 5KW generator a number of years back. Virginia will be a cake walk compared to the eastern shore. Chet… Quote
