55 Fargo Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Hi all, did some searching on here and other forums as well as general Google stuff. I want to install a trailer hitch, either some bolt on reciever type say class 2, or a clamp or mount on bumper frame deal. I want to haul a very light utility trailer, with small dirt bikes or a small tent trailer once in a while. Any ideas or suggestions. I have some plate already welded witha 3/8 UNC stud under the car, must have been a hitch or hook as we used to call em way back when I was a kid...thanx Fred Quote
55 Fargo Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 Some pics of under the back end, and 1 of my hitch for my class 3 receiver hitch on my Caravan. Quote
greg g Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 Send a PM to MarkAubuchon. He has a reciever on his 47 plymouth, he uses it for a bike rack, but it certainly seems sturdy enough to be able to deal with the 250 lbs tongue weight, and 2000 lb load. He has it attached to the rear cross member and the frame horns near the bumper supports. He could probly let you know what he used for pieces. I forget if he told me it was something he had from a previouss vehicle or he got it at the pick and pull. Plus when its off it is basically out of sight. You gonna bulb your trailers for 6V? I might get a set of those magnetic temp lights, and put 6V bulbs in them. Quote

55 Fargo Posted August 15, 2011 Author Report Posted August 15, 2011 Wonder if this could be used mounted to the bumper frame... Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 15, 2011 Report Posted August 15, 2011 The best thing about the newer style receiver hitch, to me, is that you can remove the ball part and don't have it protruding from the rear of the car all the time. Otherwise, it looks like what you have in the picture should probably work. Quote
55 Fargo Posted August 18, 2011 Author Report Posted August 18, 2011 Would this Class 1 trailer hitch work on my 47. It looks like it could be bolted to the back side of the bumper frame, attached to the center bolt possibly. I am not sure what this item is intended for, it looks universal. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p5237.m2000013&item=360387202640&viewitem= Quote

greg g Posted August 18, 2011 Report Posted August 18, 2011 I believe you are going need on with a longer mount for the ball if you are planning to use that type. and of course the longer the lever the more stress trasferred to the mount. Quote
