I am hooking up a !998 Dakota ax15 tranny and rear into my 36 plymouth flattie. Can anyone give me any feedback on this combo.

What is an ax15 transmission? How do you plan to adopt this to your engine assuming your engine is a flathead 6?

ax15 is the new five speed that replaced the BW T-5. It is used in Jeeps,Chevy S 10 and Colorado, 1992-2003 Dakota, Toyota Supra, and Tacoma pick ups. It bolts internally from the bell housing and does not have a registration plate to locate it to any other bell housing. To adapt it to another bell housing will require a good deal of work locating the input centers in proper position. First you would have to make sure that your bell housing registration hole is centered on your crankshaft pilot hole then make some device to center the pilot shaft in the hole, then transfer the blind holes in the transmission to the bell housing so that they could be drilled. Then bolt the bell housing from inside of the bell housing to the transmission. This transmission was designed to have the bell housing bolted to the transmission then installed into the engine much like a modern automatic transmission. Until some one takes the time and expense to make a template to locate and drill the P-15/D25 bell housing to accept the ax 15 transmission I would go with the BW T-5.

One of the 4x4 off road shops actually makes a replacement front bearing retainer that incorporates a 'round' registration shoulder so that the AX15 (also called by other names) can be adapted to normal bells. Sorry, my CRS doesn't allow me to recite the company name...

The Aisin-Warner units are quite durable, as evidenced by the pounding the Jeep guys hand out.

If you want to adapt the AX15, with oem bell attached, or any of the other post-62 Mopar trans/bells to a flathead I have a block adapter for that. www.qualityengineeredcomponents.com
