bamfordsgarage Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 Congrats on getting your car back, Michael — you must be very pleased. Looking forward to some pictures. About the problem with your transmission "...interior parts with 3 mioles on them..." What does this mean? Quote

Don Coatney Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 that is correct, and i paid a professional to rebuild it for me Michael; Please answer this question for all overdrive installers on this forum. Was there any grease/oil in your transmission when it was installed and first driven? Ask your professional rebuilders. If you dont know or they fail to respond tell us. If you do know then do some research, state so, and tell us what grease was used. Your answers to date do not help anyone it trying to figgure exactly what went wrong and to prevent that from happening to anyone in the future. Sorry you had this problem but the big challange is to prevent this from happening again. Please give as many details as you can. I would not like to see this happen to anyone and I am sure you would also not like to see this happen espically to someone who cannot afford to spend the money on the repairs. Please give as many details as you possibly can. This is a great chance for you to provide details to help others. Dont let them down! Quote
michael.warshaw Posted October 27, 2011 Author Report Posted October 27, 2011 from what i was told the transmission did have grease in it as the resto shop added it to the trans before it was installed b.c. there was a little add oil tag on it. i beleive it was standard gear/ trans oil, but not 100% sure. the rebuilder told me that, almost every gear in it looked like it had tons of mileage on them, making me think they were just used gears that were in there and needede replacing. they also stated that some of the gears had missing teeth, i can attest to this as i saw some of the gears they looked almost teethles. the thrid thing was the input shaftaccording to them was really worn out, so after all this it needed a rebuild. im happy its done that is all i can say. Thanks Michael; I do suggest that you give George Asche a call and let him know what happened. Had I been the rebuilder I would really like to know about a failure before anyone tells the rest of the world. Quote
Don Coatney Posted October 27, 2011 Report Posted October 27, 2011 too bad this was not photo archived.. I agree! Three miles sans lubrication will look like well over 200,000 miles with lubrication. Quote
