JIPJOBXX Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 Does anyone here have any idea where I could get an after market choke assembly that would work on our downdraft carburetors. I had a choke on mine for a little while but the only way I could get it to work with our type of carburetors was to have it backasswards. By that I mean the cable only install on the carburetor one way without some-type of adapter. This means when I pushed the cable in it would open up the choke valve and when I pulled it out it would it would close the choke. I would be curious to see if they make an adapter that would work on my carburetor or if anyone has built something from scratch that worked the right way. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 The choke cable on either my 48 or 46 pickup could easily be replaced with a store bought cable. The truck one is with the old handle soldered on to keep the factory knob. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted April 2, 2007 Author Report Posted April 2, 2007 What I'm looking at is some-type of adapter that will fit on the carburetor so the choke will work the right way or maybe a picture of somebody else's car engine. The only way that I can make a cable work now is to run around the carberator and back, so the operation in normal. I think if the attachment point were on the outside of the carberator not on the inside it work would with just a plain run. I hope this make sence??? attachment point I mean would be looking down on the carberator would be to outside of the engine not on the inside. Quote
Young Ed Posted April 2, 2007 Report Posted April 2, 2007 You can just see the cable in this picture. Its hidden by the air cleaner. But the cable goes to the back of the carb and clamps in the bracket and then the inner cable attaches to the choke. Do you have a carter carb? and was your car converted from an auto choke? Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted April 2, 2007 Author Report Posted April 2, 2007 Ok first of all I'm sorry for the picture being sidewqys. My carberator is a fluid drive type and the hook up for the electrical mechanical choke assembley runs up to the inboard side of the carberator and the only way that I can see putting a manual choke on this unit it to run it past the carberator and mount the cabel forward of the air cleaner and then running it back to the carberator. Has anyone ever did this befor? Quote
