I finally got my intake/exhaust manifolds off, and boy what a mess. Four broken bolts, a heat riser frozen open & a cracked exhaust manifold. Here are the pics:

There is only about a 1/2" of bolt sticking up on the intake. I've been applying a 50/50 mix of acetone & ATF fluid, but they are stuck solid. Any ideas?

As far as the exhaust manifold goes, is it too far gone to fix? There is a busted flang ear as well :(

Cut a screwdriver slot in each piece and apply lots of heat. When the casting is glowing orange they'll come out.

Dodge Dude,

I had the same mess about 1-1/2 months ago. I filed em flat, center punched em, and drilled them out incrementally with a small bit up to the clean out size. Use real Drill Bits (Not Chinese) go slow it took me about an hour per hole (4-Hours) to do mine. Then go see a good welder to repair the crack in the Manifold - Free up the Heat Riser Flap etc. Whoops I didn't see that busted Flange.

I know if you go to the WPCClub website there are some junk yards listed to replace that exhaust Manifold is it a 230 or 250 Engine?

i also did this to mine when a bolt sheared off, and it works well.

Here's a question I'll bet someone on here knows the answer to - another member PM'd me and said he has a good exhaust manifold he'd sell me. It is off of a '53. My question is this - Are the '53 & '49's interchangeable? The dump is in a slightly different spot than mine. How hard is it to adjust for the difference? Here is the side-by-side pic (mine is on the left) :

There are at least 3 different exhaust manifolds to suit the 23" engine, all will bolt onto the block without a problem but the difference between the 2 shown is just where the exhaust pipe attaches.......so long as there are no issues regarding clearance with any chassis bits then the manifolds are fine.........the other exhaust manifold that I refered to has its outlet at the front.......I used it for the front of my twin outlet setup......have attached a pic..........andyd
