dontknowitall
Hi, what is the correct oil filter for a 218 ? My listing here in Australia tells me I can use Ryco R407P.. Also can I use just any 6 volt coil or do i need a specific one? Fargo Distributor Nr: IAT 4004A - 11EJO8344 cheerio ryan
50farmtruck
It depends what style filter or filter housing you have. Using the search function here I've seen there are a handful of different styles. Maybe post a picture of what you have. Bryan
RHDSP15C
Forget Ryco - long gone TO China. LF568 from the Cummins dealer for the filter $6.
greg g
Most coils except those noted as internally resisted are 6V. Most 12V systems use a resistor wires or ballast resistors in the line from ign to drop operating voltage to 6 to 8 V. The reason for this is to reduce arching at the points and heat build up in the coil.
Ole Goat
On the coil issue if your really stuck for one you can use a 12 volt coil. As for the oil filter if yours is a cartridge type you can match it up with another most are universal and will work if the correct size. Greg had it right, you can use a 12 or 6 but both typically have an inline resistor. If you ask for one from a mid 60's dodge car or truck it's a nice easy one to install with 2 screws and it's just 2 connections...power from key on/and in start and the power to the distb. Straight 12v to the distb will burn the points out early in their life and can cause bad running conditions when things get hot.
