I picked up five 6.70-15, Atlas Silent Grip, 4ply, tubeless, tires today. They are new, never mounted, but I don't know how old they are. The guy I bought them from had them stored in heavy black plastic bags that he said they were in when he bought them three years ago from a guy that got them in a bunch of parts from a Chevy dealership that closed and has no history on them. They look great and feel like a new tire should. Were these tires reproduced? If not, anyone know when they were last produced? Does anyone know of a tire size comparison chart for bias ply tires? I would like to replace my 600-16 tires with these. How wide of a 15" wheel will work? Do you think 6" wheels would be too wide for these tires? I had planned to switch to radials, based on price of repop bias tires until these turned up. Thanks for any answers..............Tim

from the Sears website

In 1926, Sears adopted the trademark Allstate for initial use on automobile tires and tubes. The tires-guaranteed for 12,000 miles-quickly became big sellers in the catalog and at the new Sears, Roebuck and Co. retail stores (which first opened in 1925). Sears Chairman General Robert E. Wood credited the Allstate tire with making an important contribution to the success of Sears' retail store program.

Sears formed the Allstate Insurance Company on April 17, 1931. Allstate offered low rates, available to customers through direct-mail sales (Sears catalogs) and through sales booths in Sears stores. Allstate eventually expanded into fire insurance.

The highpoint for the Allstate brand came in the 1950s and 1960s,

By the end of the 1960s, Sears limited the Allstate brand name to insurance, tires, and automobile batteries. By the mid-1970s, Sears no longer used the Allstate brand on merchandise. In 1995, Allstate became completely independent after Sears divested its remaining shares to Sears' stockholders, ending the company's 70-year relationship with the brand it created.

Sometimes you can determine the age range by looking at the logo. the early ones were fairly ornate, and got simpler as they got later. The early ones are a filled in Lower 48 Map with the word Allstate across the map in a framed area. Looks like its a drawing of a cast brass plaque. the later ones were basically a line drawing of the map, and the word allstate in simple block letters surrounded by an filled in rectangle.

I believe Dyna Ply was also a later model range.

This would be a fairly late style,

In any case they can not be newer than the Mid 70's when as noted above the brand was not on anything except Insurance. So they need to be at least 35 years old or older.

All I remember was that Atlas was the house brand tire at either Esso or other Standard Oil co branded gas stations. I had a set of 13 in snow tires on a 73 rabbit and they were pretty old when I bought them.
