1940plymouth Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Cooper and I went for a ride to Frost Valley this afternoon, just over 30 miles round trip. After the high winds and inch and a half of rain yesterday, it was good to go for a ride this afternoon Quote
55 Fargo Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 Nice to get out and about, did the same, not far, just a 15 mile drive, nothing special no pics.... well it is special when you think of driving these cars that have survived the 40s,50s,60s,70s,80s,90s,2000-2011, now that is special, if these cars could talk, anybody ever heard of a haunted P15 or D24...... 1940plymouth Posted April 17, 2011 Author Report Posted April 17, 2011 Fred, I have often thought about if the "Wayback Machine" could talk, the stories it could tell. From when it was bought brand new by the same owners that kept it on the road until 1974 Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted April 18, 2011 Report Posted April 18, 2011 That's a cool thought - what stories our cars would tell. In 1999 I met the salesman that sold my car new in 1948 from Carlsbad Motors (NM) ("only sold one grey one in '48"), he told me the family and where they lived, and the house (but not the family) was still there! Then following the service sticker trail to Roswell and Las Cruces, NM, and acquiring the car in San Elizario, TX (outskirts of El Paso). Somewhere along the line an accident, a shotgun blast to the quarter under the drivers side rear door (hunting accident?), and the odd stuff found under the seats, in the trunk, and the glove box that hadn't been opened in many years. 1940plymouth Posted April 18, 2011 Author Report Posted April 18, 2011 Yes, it is really something that is neat to think about, my car was a year old when Pearl Harbor was attacked, FDR was in his second term. close to running for his third term, My Father was only 14, my Mother 11, rationing of all sorts during the war, D-Day, the dropping of the Atom Bomb, which I will always feel saved my Father's life, the baby boom, which I am part of, One could just go on and on..................... Captain Neon Posted April 19, 2011 Report Posted April 19, 2011 For my sake, I am glad that my ol' Plymouth is mute. I've had mine before I could even drive. Quote
Drdialtone Posted April 23, 2011 Report Posted April 23, 2011 Nice to get out and about, did the same, not far, just a 15 mile drive, nothing special no pics.... well it is special when you think of driving these cars that have survived the 40s,50s,60s,70s,80s,90s,2000-2011, now that is special, if these cars could talk, anybody ever heard of a haunted P15 or D24...... Well, my P15 may not be haunted, but it does stir MY imagination. Surviving 64 years, there MUST be many stories it has to tell. How many mechanics were under her hood? How many drivers were under the hood of some gal in the back seat? What roadside attraction has she stopped at. Family vacations or business trips. The march of time and world events that it survived. A big one for me is how many owners had the car had? I know of two, but I'm sure there were many more. Oh, and the "driving" part. That is the sole purpose I bought her - to drive! Quote
