Anyone heard of Capitol Chrysler in Indianapolis?

I finally got a build sheet for Bluebelle. It is a bit tough to read but I believe it was original shipped to a dealer in Indianapolis by the name of "Capitol".

Has anyone ever heard of such a place? It would be really neat to find some paperwork or memorabilia from there.

Jim,

Contact the public Library there, they should be able to look up any information on that dealership. I just got done doing the same thing for a dealership in Schenectady, NY from 1940 with great results

Our library has the microfilms of the daily newspapers back to day one. Most dealers advertised so there should be something there.

Try the local museum. Ours has a huge archive of documents, pictures and other local info. Some is online but only a very small portion.

Do you have a street address for this dealership?

It may have been at 433 Capitol Drive.

I came across this... In 1916, a new building was constructed at 433 N. Capitol. Although the new structure was designed to also serve as

an automobile assembly plant for the Willys Overland, that part of the operation did not materialize and the Gibson Company continued to sell and distribute automotive accessories and later replacement parts to auto dealerships and service stations. The Capitol Motors Division of the Gibson

Company sold automobiles at the Indianapolis location to 1963, starting with the Willys-Overland to 1931, the Hupmobile, 1931, and Dodge cars and trucks, 1931-1963, at which time the dealership was sold to Palmer Dodge of Indianapolis and was moved out of the building.

I also came across this...capitol%20motors%20indianapolis%20in%20sept.jpg

Per Google maps there is now a beer joint at 433 Capitol Avenue today. I did not find a Capitol Drive listed.

Don, that's it! I just looked up that address on my Google Earth, looked at it in 3-D and it looks just like the picture Gregg posted! You can also see it using the street view on Google Maps.

I may have to go there sometime and check it out!
