I started out by putting my 53 on an S10 frame, but I found out the track width is very narrow and did not look right nor was the rear end wide enough for my bed to fit over. I then bought a 91 Dakota frame and it fits like a glove. the rear frame kicks up and takes up some of the box, but since mine is channeled over the frame, I expected that anyways. Hope this helps. Welcome. Early Dakota frame makes sense seeing as they were available from the factory with 318s, keeps the original wheel bolt pattern and keeps it all Dodge. budstruck is doing a Dakota frame conversion that is well documented. You can find it using the search buttom in the banner, top of page. Posting images how-to can also be found by hitting the FAQ button in the same banner. Scroll down and you'll find what you're looking for.

Looks like your in for some fun and work! I did see a 50 on a Dakota frame and to me it looked like they had the motor too far forward and it looked funny...I guess they were trying to maintain room for the distb.

My buddy who's a big ford guy was always bugging me to put a 302 in mine..and in all honesty it makes sence for saving room at the back...but I just couldn't do that too a Dodge! :P

Here's mine start and somewhat finished...but it's getting another flathead, and some other work this spring...and probably paint again
