BobT-47P15 Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Welll......it was a fairly uneventful day til about 5 o'clock tonight. We had stopped at a light on our way to the church to attend to a certain matter. The light turned green, we were proceeding across the other street.....when suddenly this car was right in front of us. Stepped on the brake, but we hit rhe drivers side rear wheel of the other vehicle.......which mostly ripped off our front bumper. It was hanging off from a few attaching bolts on the drivers side.....and the passenger end was dragging on the ground. Were in the Caravan. Both vehicles pulled into a nearby parking lot to exchange information and call the P D. The lady driving the other car received a citation for running a red light. So I'm looking at our car (nothing was leaking, no lights broken) and thinking "if I could just fasten this bumper up, I can drive it on home". Then I remembered the sack with the used strings removed from my guitar earlier in the afternoon when I bought new ones. I tend to keep the old strings as emergency spares. Used the old "G" string to tie the bumper up to the radiator framework, and got back home with no problems. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Does your wife know you carry around old G strings? Glad to hear it was minor and you're all ok. Quote
Robert Horne Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 I always have a role of duct tape with my emergency kit in all my vehicles. Quote
desoto1939 Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 So as your were driving home and after having attached the G String to the bumper was your car then playing the Aire in G minor or Major. Hope the sound was in tune and not flat. rich Hartung Quote
P-12 Tommy Posted December 30, 2010 Report Posted December 30, 2010 Glad to hear no one was hurt. I guess old "G" strings are good for something. Tom Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 My wife Lisa is in Columbus, Ohio tending to the needs of her brother who has some severe cancerous health issues. She called me earlier today to report that while she was purchasing gas some one backed up and struck her car. Fortunately she was not hurt and her car recieved minor damage. Intersting thing she discovered was the lady who backed up striking her car lives two doors next to her sister who also lives in Columbus. Hopefully this will make the insurance claim a bit more manageable. I dont think any G strings will be required to settel this matter;) Quote
pawpawpatch Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Glad noone was hurt. Sure gave everybody somethin to rag you about though. (would insert a lauhin smiley here but i dont see any.) lol Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 31, 2010 Author Report Posted December 31, 2010 Yes, we were lucky no one in either car was hurt. If the timing had been just a little different, it could have been much worse. The other driver's insurance company got right on it, and by this afternoon I was approved to have a rental car. So we're now driving a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which is pretty big but doesn't have as much cargo space as our short Caravan. The body shop says they hope to have the van repaired by next Thursday, subject to being able to get the needed parts in a timely fashion due to the holiday. I think I'll stay in touch with Enterprise Rental and when they get a Caravan back in, trade them the Jeep for one of those. Strangely, it makes me kind of nervous driving a new vehicle that isn't mine. If an at fault accident were to occur, then it would be on my own insurance. Quote
40plyrod Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 if you leave your make-do repair will your car be easier to "tune" up:D Quote
Reg Evans Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 Hey....put a few more strings on the Caravan and you'll be drivin a CORD. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 31, 2010 Author Report Posted December 31, 2010 Good ones, guys. I figured there would be some humorous comments. Quote
