buds truck Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 got the Dakota firewall completely welded in and the rest of the metal shaped and welded for the recessed master cylinder and fabricated the pedal swing brackets. Lifted the cab off the frame and got ready to start pulling the torqueflite to get it to the trans shop for the rebuild. Had more fun today than was legally allowed.....:D:D Quote
Dave72dt Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 Sounds like renewed enthusiasm! I know, other things always seem to come first. At least it won't feel like work for a while. Gotta be easier to get trans out without a cab in the way. Enjoy! Quote
smallblockjunkie Posted December 20, 2010 Report Posted December 20, 2010 you must have a good heater in the shop. It is cool up there now isn't it? Quote
buds truck Posted December 20, 2010 Author Report Posted December 20, 2010 no heater, shop door open and thermals with a hoodie. brrrrrrr Quote
buds truck Posted December 24, 2010 Author Report Posted December 24, 2010 Great day today..... Shortened the steering column (again, another 4 1/2 inches), finished manufacturing and welding the swing pedal mount so it ties in strong to the 49 Plymouth dash, and built the transmission mount. Then off to candle light service and then taking the wife out to dinner. whew.... Quote
smallblockjunkie Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 glad to hear something is getting done somewhere. My truck is setting there. Every time I go into the garage the truck tells me ( please come and work on me) Quote
Dave72dt Posted December 25, 2010 Report Posted December 25, 2010 I got about 3 hours in on mine yesterday. Working on hood latches. Quote
buds truck Posted December 31, 2010 Author Report Posted December 31, 2010 ordered a dual exhaust kit from JEG's today, once I get that in, I can actually start it..... woot woot.... all I need now is to have Tim come up from Calif and help me get it running..... Quote
Dave72dt Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 I'm still working on hood latches. Should be simple enough , right? Hood latches aren't stock items either. Quote
tysouthwick Posted December 31, 2010 Report Posted December 31, 2010 you must have a good heater in the shop. It is cool up there now isn't it? Does it ever get cold in Henderson? I live an hour and a half north of you but I have never been there in the winter:eek: Quote
buds truck Posted January 1, 2011 Author Report Posted January 1, 2011 I just found a set of stainless headers on that auction site. They should arrive about the same time as the exhaust does. My next weekend is now full!! Quote
smallblockjunkie Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 It got down to 27 degrees over night Quote
smallblockjunkie Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 good job on the header find. sounds like you are moving along. Quote
buds truck Posted January 1, 2011 Author Report Posted January 1, 2011 It got down to 27 degrees over night a virtual heat wave.... we were in single digits last nite...unusual for here Quote
buds truck Posted January 17, 2011 Author Report Posted January 17, 2011 exhaust and headers in, cab back on the frame, steering column shortened more, hung the brake pedal and reworked the angles of the pedal to clear the repositioned column, fabricated a mount for the emergency brake that came out of the Dakota and fabricated the start of the automatic trans linkage. I still have to go to the boneyard and get another intermediate shaft for the Dakota steering as I buggered up the double "d" shaft on mine. We are getting closer!!!! Quote
Dan Babb Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 I'd like to see a picture of the emergency brake setup when you have a chance. I'm thinking of using an ebrake handle I have out of a mustang (it would be mounted somewhere on the floor), but would rather have a regular pedal setup. When I went to the local u-pull it, I was looking for one that had mounts on the cab side...but didn't find anything I could work with. Quote
buds truck Posted January 17, 2011 Author Report Posted January 17, 2011 I will get pics tonite for you. Quote
51 Fargo Posted January 17, 2011 Report Posted January 17, 2011 ya I was about to say this is all nice to hear but some pics would be better LOLOL Quote
buds truck Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 this is the emergency brake set up. It is off a 91 Dodge Dakota. the mounting plate unbolts from the side of the dakota cowl and makes an easy adapt to the 53 truck. I just cut the two rear edges flat and welded to the cowl post. I used part of the 53 cowl vent bracket for the front brace that meets the firewall and welded that in the front. the emergency brake system bolts up to it nicely. Quote
buds truck Posted January 18, 2011 Author Report Posted January 18, 2011 some more pics of the stuff I have gotten done per request!! :D Quote
51 Fargo Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 your E brake set up is just like mine.... I got mine from a 81 dodge truck Quote
Dan Babb Posted January 18, 2011 Report Posted January 18, 2011 Thanks for the brake pics. Now I know what to look for next time I head to the junkyard. Quote
