BobT-47P15
Did you know there is a spring under the car that should pull that cable when you release the brake? Edited October 25, 2010 by BobT-47P15
Ed Fleming
Hi just the springs on the park brake itself that goes on the tranny
BobT-47P15
That long, skinny spring at lower right pulls the cable back to release.... it has an extension piece of wire only partially showing, that hooks to the car back a ways. I can't describe exactly where at the moment. If you have that spring, it either needs more tension. Or, the works of the cable are gummed up and not moving properly. Plymouthy Adams
I just recently removed mine and hung it vertically suspended by one of the cable ends..made a heavly paper funnel and taped this around the cable housing end and then filled with oil and let gravity do its thing...my cable now is slipperly as when new..before..very erratic with lots of drag..
807kirby
this has definitely helped me out, when I bought my car the transmission was out and did not know that there was a helper spring!! I think I have the spring in the parts box, but did not install as I was unaware that it went on park brake!! Thanks for this post!!
old rat 49
Mine was rusted in place and couldn't pull it from any direction. Soaked in kerosene and flexed it a bit and it freed up. Had to replace cable as it was frayed under car. Autozone HELP products had a replacement cable. Have to figure out the hook up at brake end.
