P-12 Tommy Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Saw this on E-bay. Parts car. In case someone is interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1947-Plymouth-Convertible-Parts-Restore-ONLY-/130412154331?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Salvage_Parts_Cars&hash=item1e5d2b8ddb Tom Quote

55 Fargo Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Cut this body off,,minus front cowl, and transplant onto decent P15 floor and cowl from a donor car, and might be good resto candidate. I know a Guy who did just that witha rotten 48 Chrysler convert, he cut the body off, minus front cowl/firewall, and put it onto a donor car floor and cowl, it worked out very well, and this car was sold to a Gent in Minneapolis, and is still being driven.......Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Not sure how that worked. The floors arent the same in a convert to a sedan due to the X crossmember in the frame. Quote
John Reddie Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 It's rough but I've seen cars this bad that were brought back to like new condition. This will require a dedicated labor of love. John R Quote
Young Ed Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 John is correct. The guy who restored my Dads 51 convert did a 46-48 where basically the cowl was the only part that hadn't rusted away. He redid the entire floor system rockers etc and turned coupe doors into convert ones by welding the tops on. Quote
55 Fargo Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Not sure how that worked. The floors arent the same in a convert to a sedan due to the X crossmember in the frame. I believe he did some fabbing to create a stronger frame, and the convert body mated to the sedan floor. This is a Yellow 47 or 48 New Yorker Convert, it is in your area, but was re-built up here. The floor was completely rotten on this car, prior to the grafting of the body onto the sdean floor. I am not 100% sure of how he did all of the fab work, but do know he did the procedure as described, this Guy was pretty crafty, he is a retired Mechanical Engineering Prof.......Fred Quote
Young Ed Posted July 20, 2010 Report Posted July 20, 2010 Perhaps some of the areas from the convert were reused. For Dads 51 the body shop did basically this same thing but the inner rockers and parts of the floor were different and had to be made. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 Heck, I think some forum members have tackled cars with more rust than that. The most important thing is having the top bows. I think it's Hydro Electric who sells new vacuum top cylinders. Or just convert it to a hydraulic system. The convertible only door glasses and wings look fine. What I can see, the trunk floor looks maybe OK. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 I see a right side vent window lock,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Quote
John Reddie Posted July 21, 2010 Report Posted July 21, 2010 If this '61 Impala was restored, this P15 here can surely be be brought back. The Impala is about 75% completed. An incredible amount of time and skill is evident here. It's progress can be followed on the Impala website. John R Quote
