BobT-47P15 Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Bid up to $19,601, but evidently was not enough to buy it. link to the ad: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=013&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&viewitem=&item=230096519900&rd=1,1 Quote
Guest 50Plymouth Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Beautiful, wonder how just how high his magic number went. There's always more out there, but you can't always backtrack easily once you've already got it right? Ryan Quote
Young Ed Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I don't know about that car. I saw some flaws that I would think would bring the price down. Appears to me the seller wants #1 condition money for a car not in #1 shape. 1 example-front bumper is slanted left to right. on the left you can see the bottom grill bar and on the right you cant see it at all! Young Ed Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 Another thing is the engine in that car. Not detailed at all and looks to be green? Also with the wrong thermostat housing it leads me to believe its a later model replacement engine. None of that hurts the driving enjoyment value but it lowers the resale value of an original car. Guest 50Plymouth Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 You'd think it be #'s matching for that price direction. Perhaps the dealer fully intended a rather fat profit margin here. Quote
1just4don Posted March 6, 2007 Report Posted March 6, 2007 I dont think I have ever seen a car I was watching on the bay EVER sell IF it had a reserve. Only ones ever sell is those unreserved ones. I dont follow too many too often but just havent seen one YET. Quote
claybill Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 i dont know where you guys are expecting to find nice 'verts for 22-24k or less. i have one a bit better than the ebay one ( in my opinion) and i wouldnt take 24k. shop around.? minor stuff is easy to fix. mine is an older restoration too but real nice driver..and it has a 50 motor. no problem ....most all these ply's have been re-motored anyway. claybill Quote
Young Ed Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 The 2 that I've seen sell for 25K were perfect restorations. Which to me would mean a correct P15 engine painted up nice correct upholstery good alignment of the body parts etc. Just for fun I looked it up in the price guide. Excellent condition shows 19 with show condition 26. Guess ebay was pretty close to the value! http://www.manheimgold.com/frames/classic.cgi?make=PLYMOUTH&year=1948&model=SPECIAL+DELUXE Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 7, 2007 Author Report Posted March 7, 2007 I see the top down, but no boot to cover it. I also see one fender skirt in the trunk.....is there another??? The trunk has been insulated with the grey stuff, but needs the cardboard liners to cover it. Been completely re-upholstered, but I'm personally not too crazy about the material. A heater wire is hanging below the dash. Heater has been painted black....should be goldish brown. Engine not cleaned and painted. As Ed said, front bumper a little crooked. Body looks good in the pics. "Picky, picky" All in all, not really too bad, but not sure it's worth the very top dollar. Uh, oh...just noticed round head bumper bolts. Did you see the photographer in the rear bumper and fender?? Quote
Robin (UK) Posted March 7, 2007 Report Posted March 7, 2007 ...and the driver's side rocker trim is actually a passenger side piece. And the top hold-down brackets seem to be missing. But it has all the correct knobs and switches, clock and radio, dual heaters and it's a good looker. I think someone's in line to get a nice car at a fair price. Robin. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 9, 2007 Author Report Posted March 9, 2007 Robin - you could get it for Colette......then have a matching pair. Quote
