1942cowdodge Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Just a dumb question but I just want to know can I use a 12 volt bulb in a 6 volt system. The reason why I'm asking this is that my new little old trailer has 12 volts tail lights and I plan on using the Dodge to tow it and I would surmise that the bulb may not be as bright with a six volt battery but it will sill light-Right? Young Ed Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 It will be very dim. You should swap the trailer to 6v bulbs. Of course this is an issue if you ever want to tow with a modern 12v vehicle. Quote
1942cowdodge Posted June 17, 2010 Author Report Posted June 17, 2010 Yea your right and I think I will do that as I have a temporary bar set up for towing and that has 12 volt lights on it. Thanks Jon Quote
Young Ed Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 The only other work around I can think of is to leave the trailer 12v and run a 6-12v invertor in the car for the trailer. Quote
Captain Neon Posted June 17, 2010 Report Posted June 17, 2010 Use 6v bulbs and when you ocassionally tow with 12v the bulbs will be twice as bright. Quote
