DLK Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Has anyone else had one of these go bad? I don't seem to be getting any current out of the switch in the terminal that goes to the front of the car when the switch is turned on. The parking lights work just fine. I guess the next question would be how universal this switch is on Chrysler cars from 49-52 and whether I could use a switch from a Plymouth or Chrysler in my Dodge if I can find one. Quote
David Strieb Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 I've had good luck with addapting the old knob to a new universal push/pull headlight switch. If you take these switchs apart, they have slide contacts for the different positions. These contacts get worn/dirty from use. Maybe a good cleaning will restore your old switch. Quote
martybose Posted May 25, 2010 Report Posted May 25, 2010 Don't forget that these switches were designed for 30W headlights; if you upgrade to newer headlights they generally pull 55-60W. Headlight relays are your friends! Marty Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 Marty - if using relays, do you use one relay for each headlight, or one relay for the pair of lights? Quote
martybose Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 Marty - if using relays, do you use one relay for each headlight, or onerelay for the pair of lights? Neither; you use a dual relay, one for both low beams and the other for both high beams. Marty Quote
faucet47custom Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 You only need one relay for both lights, maybe a second on the high beams. Your switch activates the relay and doesn't actually power the lights at all. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 26, 2010 Report Posted May 26, 2010 single relay energized by the light switch , power fed from the battery (your choice of power tap), through a circuit breaker and into the dimmer switch feed..the dimmer switch will route the power to the Hi/Lo circuit Quote
