Bradley S. Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 I thought I read in Don's book that all of the Dodge badges on the nose had the letters filled with paint. The badge on my truck doesn't look like it ever had paint on it. Were some badges all chrome with no paint? Thx, Brad Quote
Merle Coggins Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 I think the paint just wears off over time. Paint doesn't adhere that well to smooth stainless steel. Merle Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 (edited) To be or not to be that is the question. It's a funny thing and it comes down to a matter of personal preference. I can live without the paint in the Ram, in the DODGE letters and in the grooves of the Job Rated medallion. I have been living without the red paint in "Job Rated" but am having a hard time with it. My medallion still needs work before I can paint in "Job Rated". I'll pass on what my dearly departed Pilot-House Buddy "Slick" once said to me "Whatever blows your dress up" Hank P.S. Hey Brad hows the beast coming along...When I first looked at your inspirational web-site, I had no idea I'd get there first. I know you are doing a great job and I can't wait to see some pictures. HanksB3B Posted May 18, 2010 Report Posted May 18, 2010 It was the best I could do. That's what I like about you. Hank Quote
Bradley S. Posted May 19, 2010 Author Report Posted May 19, 2010 Hank; I attached a picture of the engine compartment before and after. I have since installed the wiring. I will take a few pictures of the cab interior next week and post. It really turned out great. Used a Quiet Ride firewall cover. She's headed for the body shop for a little work in the next couple, three weeks. The engine compartment is done as is the cab interior. Will be starting her up for the first time in two years next week. Hope she fires!!!! I have new / used fenders and nose on the way. Just need them spiffed up and painted, then I will hang them myself. I hope to have her done and in a parade by late summer. How many college cheerleaders will a B1F hold on a 9ft stake bed? Bradley S. Posted May 19, 2010 Author Report Posted May 19, 2010 PS; Hank your truck looks great! More pictures! Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 Somehow, I totally blitzed and painted mine blue (like I did the first time around...I guess that's why..didn't know any better..) It's on my someday list to re-do it in silver like yours. Good Job! Hank Quote
DollyDodge Posted May 19, 2010 Report Posted May 19, 2010 I like blue, that is the color that was on my engine for years and as I fix up parts of it I repaint them blue. Might not be original but it is nice looking! Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Here in Brazil if I painted my engine with blue color,my wife will bother me,because she is colorado(International football club)-blue is GREMIO!!!. Quote
1949dakota Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 (edited) Now I'm totally confused, blue is not the original color? I found blue paint on the block / red on the intake / and (maybe) one trace of red on the head this is on a 1953 industrial motor, were they all silver??? HanksB3B Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Yes, supposed to be Silver, but the Navy Blue (just looks light in the sunlight) is very forgiving as far as oil and road grime is concerned. I'm o.k. with it, Hank Quote
Reg Evans Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 In the cars and trucks of this vintage YES,all silver. Quote
Reg Evans Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 I like that blue a bunch Hank. Silver is correct but kinda boring now that I have seen 100's of them. Quote
Reg Evans Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Back to the original topic ........like Merle said they were painted red. I painted the Job Rated emblem red but went with the body color for the D O D G E lettering. Quote
Fernando Mendes Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 1949dakota,since I am in this forum(2003),I knew/learned Dodge,Plymouth,Chrysler and De Soto engine original color was silver.*For example*:I have a Willys Jeep 1942(WWII) since 1982,its engine was always red for twenty years. When I bought web/internet here in Brazil(2000) I knew that the original engine Willys Jeep color was green and Ford Jeep grey.you have many times to change your Dodge engine original color.Take it easy!!! Fernando Mendes Posted June 19, 2010 Report Posted June 19, 2010 Guys,I think that, the same manner,I painted my B3-B grille with chrome spray(I know this is not original),Hank painted your engine with blue navy. One of this forum that I saw, many years ago, painted his engine too red was Rawge. Quote
