Cpt.Fred Posted May 17, 2010 Author Report Posted May 17, 2010 50 deluxe: oh no, i hate to hear that! hope you can solve your problem soon and with lower costs than you think now. 1955 plymouth: do you mean the wire on top of the picture, going to the breaker? it looks more like a grease stain to me, when i checked it on the motor i didn't see anything bad. but maybe i'll better check again... Joe Flanagan Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Fred, So it turned out to be your filter? Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted May 17, 2010 Author Report Posted May 17, 2010 i guess? anyway, cleaning, checking and oiling everything else was a good idea for sure! Quote
norrism1 Posted May 17, 2010 Report Posted May 17, 2010 Cpt.Fred, Could the condensor be the wrong one? Capacitor may be too small in microfarads or too much? Just a thought. Quote
mackster Posted October 9, 2010 Report Posted October 9, 2010 I was wondering what was wrong with your car, i am kind of experiencing the same problem on and off....it seems like it went away, but i want to be ready when it comes back! Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 If your car idle fine but starts to run rough when you get up to speed (or going uphill), that is usually a sign of fuel starvation. Do a pressure and volume check at the fuel pump. It easy to do and a lot cheaper than replacing parts that are not causing your problems. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 (edited) sorry, i just noticed this oldie was was back up here:rolleyes: it turned out to be the filter, it didn't look that bad but i took it out anyway. i then went over the rest of the stuff mentioned above, the problem was gone. then, about a month ago, it came back all of a sudden. changed filter, problem was gone. this time, i opened the filter capsule with a sharp knife and had a closer look at it. though it did not look clogged, only a little dirty, it was totally packed with really small particles in the core. i will drain the gas tank this winter, once again. i imagine it has something to do with my electrical pump which i am running on 6V, without any mechanical one. when the filter starts clogging, the pump cannot develop enough fuel pressure for full throttle operation any more. the other filter, between the pump and the carb, is still perfect, so at least i know the first one does its job right. i am always carrying a bunch of them in the trunk, they're cheap and it takes about 30 seconds to change, sooo..... as long as i keep my filters clean and my timing checked, nothing is shaking any more. in fact the car is very reliable at the moment, i'm really happy! it still isn't a turn key car, but that's only due to the fact i lost my keys and i'm just hot wiring it lots of autumn cruising still to come... Niel Hoback Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 Maybe you should try a sediment bowl in the line just out of the tank. That way you could just empty it once in a while and not go through so mny filters. Quote
Cpt.Fred Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 funny thing, Niel: i just came back to the site and read this under your post: ",,,,and remember, this fix is only temporary........unless it works." then i logged in to answer, but now that i am logged in, it's not there any more. i cannot read signatures, only when i'm on the site as a visitor. hmm. anyway... that's why i keep changing filters here at the moment.
