Model number

Recommended Posts

Hi I recently accuired a 1949 dodge truck in pretty good shape

i'v been reading on here quite a lot and I've learned lots so far,

but I still can not find or figure out what the F in DF1-08 means.

If any of you gear heads that are in the know on how dodge works these model numbers I would really appreciate it .

Thanks

I only see US built trucks in Tim's link. But if you browse around the DEPTCA Pilots Knowledge area you'll find this book. http://dodgepilothouseclub.org/know/DE-FE_Export_Serials/imgcol/index.htm

It will show that your DF-1 is a Canadian built 1950 model year 1/2 ton truck. the "08" represents the wheel base at 108"

I never really knew the Canadian model numbers, but that book helped me to understand them better. Here's what I've determined in regards to the Pilot-House trucks;

'48-'49 model Year Trucks

USA Built Dodge = B-1-* (*= B for 1/2 ton, C for 3/4 ton, D for 1 ton, etc)

Canada Built Dodge = DE-* (*= 1 for 1/2 ton, 2 for 1ton, etc.

USA Built Fargo = F-1-* (*= same as US built Dodge trucks but without a 3/4 ton truck)

Canada Built Fargo = FM-* (* = same as Canada built Dodge trucks.)

'50 Model Year trucks

USA built Dodge = B-2-* (* = see above)

Canada build Dodge = DF-* (* = see above)

USA Build Fargo = F-2-* (* = see above)

Canada build Fargo = FN-* (* = see above)

'51-'52 Model Year Trucks

USA built Dodge = B-3-*

Canada built Dodge = DG-*

USA built Fargo = F-3-*

Canada build Fargo = FO-*

'53 Model Year Trucks

USA built Dodge = B-4-*

Canaca build Dodge = DH-*

USA build Fargo - F-4-*

Canada build Fargo = FP-*

I didn't study beyond the 1 ton size, but I found it interesting that only the US build Dodge trucks got a 3/4 ton class truck. I also remember reading somewhere, probably here, that only US built Dodge trucks got the corner windows. I don't know why, those corner windows are what really make it a Pilot-House, "all around view" cab.

I think I should have scanned them a bit larger. They are hard to read.

I am sure Canada had corner windows. I have never seen a pre 52 Pilothouse in Australia without corner windows and they all came from Canada.
