JIPJOBXX Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 This is a picture that shows a car that my dad made to trips across the United States from New York to California in the early late 20's and early 30's. Notice the trailer behind it? That old trailer was towed over 9,000 miles and so yes an old car can tow a trailer and doesn't need all the new stuff to do so. I remember as a kid seeing that trailer in the back yard and wish it was still there today!!! Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 That is awesome. Do you have any written account of the trips? Thanks for sharing, Bob Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted January 16, 2010 Author Report Posted January 16, 2010 This old Model A was my mother car probably right after the old Chevy went up to S/F. It was past threw the family and it was my first high school car back in 1960. My brother gave it to me when I was 13 years old to work on and of course I was in seventh heaven!!!! By the time I had graduated from high school I had gone through four or five model A's and sold them for a song. Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted January 16, 2010 Author Report Posted January 16, 2010 And this picture is of course me and I was a bit younger but still that model A had a future with me!!!! Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted January 16, 2010 Author Report Posted January 16, 2010 And this is a picture of my Mom and Dad probably taken around the time that old Chevy was sold new. Interesting thing to know but my mom was on the old "You Bet Your Life show on TV! with Grocho Marks at one time." Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted January 16, 2010 Author Report Posted January 16, 2010 And now to complete this section a picture of the house my dad bought back in 1942 for a sum of 5,000 dollars. I still own part interest in it and see that driveway? that's where I first learned how to drive that Model A. Like everything else in my life its kind of an old house built in 1895 but like my Dodge its all restored inside and out! Worth probably a few more dollars than my dad paid for it. But its home and its one big part of my life. Jon:) Quote
1940plymouth Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Jon Again, thanks for sharing, the photos from time gone by are so interesting, not to mention the memories that go with them Bob Quote
greg g Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Did she say the magic word, Win any money, think about slapping Groucho's face??? Tell me about the Syracuse connections, Central New Yorkers want to know. Quote
eric wissing Posted January 17, 2010 Report Posted January 17, 2010 Jon, great story and a great house. It looks almost like a "Dutch Colonial" but modified for the California sun. I have a scrap book from a local couple here who drove from Iowa to Miami to So. Cal and then North and back again. They weren't home more than a month or so when they took off for the East. Great pics and stories. Eric Quote
JIPJOBXX Posted January 17, 2010 Author Report Posted January 17, 2010 I thought you guys like those pictures so much that I would put in one of my very early Lechich photo's. This is from my dads family side of the family and I still have the original tin type picture. My great great grandfather carried this throughout the civil war. He was a flag boy for the Union side and I'm lucky to be here as those were the people who usually got shot at first. Anyway I love my family history and to have it documented with photo's make it that much better. Quote
