Joe Flanagan Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 There was a little discussion about this a while ago. Today I drilled out the spot welds that hold the bracket to my old coil and separated it. I'll be able to use this for my new coil (and every one after that). There are six very small spot welds. Three on each side. They drill out pretty easily: Quote
Young Ed Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 Good work I've got an old coil laying around that has a broken wire stud. I'll have to make sure I salvage the bracket before I chuck it. Going to fill the holes or leave em? Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted December 4, 2009 Author Report Posted December 4, 2009 I figured I'd leave them. If it looks weird, I'll fill them. The new coil is a little smaller than the original so I'll have to do like Don C. and use a piece of rubber as a spacer. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted December 4, 2009 Report Posted December 4, 2009 The old coil that was on my coupe wasn't spot welded like that. Someone probably changed it years ago, before I bought the car. I had to do the same when I bought a new coil. I used a piece of an old inner tube to act as a spacer when I bought a new coil. I did have another used coil with the bracket spot welded to it though, that someone had given me. I finally chucked it a few years ago. But.......before chucking the coil, I did remove the bracket. I just drove a screwdriver in between the spot welds and broke it loose that way. Came off fairly easy that way too. I then put the bracket in with my other extra parts, in case I need it someday. pflaming Posted December 5, 2009 Report Posted December 5, 2009 :mad:Bought a new coil and a new bracket which had indentations to 'grip' the coil. I tightened the bracket too tight which indented the coil. . . which RUINED IT! Guess the wires inside are a VERY tight fit. Parts company sold me the second on at their cost which helped and they decided they would warn future buyers. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted December 5, 2009 Author Report Posted December 5, 2009 Thanks for the tip. There will be no coil squeezing from me. Quote
