BobT-47P15 Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 .......right off the parts coupe over in Kansas Saturday. Son-in-law Dale took his grinder with cutting wheel.....now has the top to replace the damaged one on the brown P15 coupe I gave him. He trailered it back to his home in Kansas City a couple weeks ago. Got a few fairly good items from the dash, especially the gauges. Some other dash stuff wasn't much good. The center medallion was painted black by some previous owner, but cleaned up pretty well.....took a lot of rubbing with paint thinner and Mother's mag wheel polish. Went thru most of my goodie boxes in the garage, gave him a bunch of parts and pieces that were lurking around....kinda like early Christmas. Also had to exchange the battery I bought at Atwoods Farm Supply recently as it didn't hold a charge very well. Took another one of the same type, and hope it does better. He has the car tuned a little better now and it starts up very quickly, even with old 12 volt style skinny battery cables. Will eventually get them replaced with 0 gauge. Had a good weekend doing old Plymouth stuff. Quote
RobertKB Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 I normally don't like chop jobs but yours is one I don't mind! Sounds like you had fun doing Plymouth stuff and spending time with your son-in-law. It sounds like the old Plymouth will one day be repaired and I know forum members will love being kept updated. Thanks for posting the pictures. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 that is going to be a rather involved project but whould be very rewarding when finished..the car is solid enough to merit this work...luck to him, hope nothing happenes that would take his time and effort away from the project Quote
steveplym Posted November 29, 2009 Report Posted November 29, 2009 Gonna be a neat coupe Bob. Glad you guys decided to fix it. Keep us updated. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 30, 2009 Author Report Posted November 30, 2009 The brown coupe has (I think) a 53 Plym engine with split manifold, which I'm sure has been rebuilt at some time in the past. A local guy ran it in his 41 Plymouth before switching to some type of V8. Seems to run good so far.....haven't been able to actually get out and drive it down the road. Bought that motor from a guy who had it stored in an old garage for several years. Right now, it won't shift into reverse, so we discovered when loading it onto the trailer. Probably just a linkage thing. Have had the brakes completely re-done with new wheel cylinders and a N O S master cylinder purchased thru a local truck brake company. Dale says the heater works real good. And the fan works well. That sorta surprised me. Now have another new battery for it, so hopefully it will continue to start OK. Think I'll get some new 0 gauge battery cables from our local Battery Warehouse. The engine and bay need going thru in terms of clean-up after the darn battery blew up earlier in the year. Had the engine painted pretty nicely......and the firewall didn't look too bad, had the radiator all painted and it was pretty clean looking. Ah, well. First pic is before......next pic, after. It now looks even worse than that after having sat for awhile. Washed off stuff with baking soda and Coca Cola, but still didn't stop all the corrosion. Am working on a set of correct horns for the car - painting them mainly. Someone had replaced the horns with one 12 volt horn, which they operated by having a 12V battery in the trunk. I guess you could give them a couple points for inventiveness. Quote
Rollie Posted November 30, 2009 Report Posted November 30, 2009 Bob, your coupe actually doesn't look too bad after being yanked on, good job on saving the car and good luck with the new roof/cowl install. Quote
