Plymouthy Adams Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 (edited) well, other than having a real good time walking about and looking at the stuff and a few cars in the sales lot, little to be had..a couple items I found was off the wall high and so they remained with the seller. Ran into a number of folks form work and of course the infamous Lou Earle..we always arrange to meet at a specific time and place there to exchange info on things spotted. My cousin-in-law who had come to visit went with me..his first major swap meet that was automotive related. Well, his 40 Pontiac will be dropped off at my house tomorrow evening or early Monday morning. Found a very solid survivor 2 door sedan, Silver Streak I think they call them..in police outfit..only bad area was the running boards, the rest..very minor work to accomplish to prep..interior is complete and drivable in the condition as it sits..is marked as a city police car from a large town short distance form here....about the best deal on the place in my opinion..he is like a kid at Christmas..will be back in a couple weeks with a trailer to get it home to Kentucky..I think he did good..get this..a 57 2 door Chevy in super good condition untouched original...sold for less than 4000.00..I thought this was like unreal.. Norm's Coupe Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 While I'm not a fan of 57 Chevy's, that was a deal, even if you didn't want a 57 Chevy. For that kind of money, it's hard to pass up. If you didn't want it, you could flip it without doing any work on it, and still make a nice little profit. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 Sounds like many swap meets around here. Lotsa stuff......if you have a Ford, GM, or late model Mopar. I think the old police car thing would be fun--take it to shows and should be good for lots of comments. The 57 does sound reasonable in today's world. I think they're "ok" but have never had a strong desire to own one. Back when they were just another car, in the 60s, a friend bought a nice Bel Air two door hardtop, then proceeded to drive it til it was close to junk. Didn't really take much care of it....just used it. Who knew it would be a future "classic". Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 The infamous Moultrie swap meet? I heard it goes for 2 days its so big. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 21, 2009 Author Report Posted November 21, 2009 Frankie, Friday through Sunday...I try always to get there by early Friday...most venders set up late evening Thursday...some are still coming in by early Friday but mostly locals folks..it was a good attendance early will be a crowd there today..I try to avoid all that..and the car corral was well represented...some very nice cars down to a few el-Junkos..but this is what makes the show...did not see as many work in porgress as in the past..two venders I like to visit was not present this time..still yet, it is always a good day at the swap meet..even if you just walk around.. Lou Earle Posted November 21, 2009 Report Posted November 21, 2009 It was beautiful day at the meet in moultrie. I bought absolutely nothing except some alligator tail on a stick- very good and a sliced beef and cheese Philly sub- jut OK not great. The nice thing besides the weather was that I needed to buy absolutely nothing and I did just that!! using a 57 Chevy as a benchmark- last year a 2 door hardtop very good condition was 35 thous plus yesterday it as 22 500 to 20 grand. A post 57 2 door last year was 25 to 28 grand now 17 to to 20. big drop in prices about 1/3 Have enough toys for now will just have to suffer thru this dip with my 58 dodge and 60 desoto b Besides it think fins are tacky!! Even on a fish!!! Lou Quote
