T120 Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 ...The money we spend, regardless of the amount,is a good thing.Whether it be it restore an old car or reno an old house. In doing so, we are keeping the money circulating and helping the economic recovery...and if we derive some pleasure in the process-that's a bonus. Norm's Coupe Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 The east and west sill plates in my garage were rotted out a few years ago. Also needed a new side entrance door. My son and I jacked one side up at a time, replaced the sill plates and a few rolls of siding on the outside. Also removed the old 24" side entrance door and replaced it with a 36" wide door. Only took about one day per side, and one day for the door. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted November 19, 2009 Report Posted November 19, 2009 We did that to the garage my car now sits in. We had old termite damage in the sill plates. We used four house jacks to lift it off the slab and repaired the plates. Then we set the building back down on galvanized metal pipes and used a come-along to pull it backward onto a new slab I poured just behind the original. We needed to move the garage to make room for the addition I was going to build. My wife and I did that together. It was a lot of fun. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted November 25, 2009 Author Report Posted November 25, 2009 frame is off, now im going for a full paintjob, and a frame off resto all this from a no charging problem. who would have thought. no engine floor without frame you can see the welded in angle iron instead of new rockers. rear spare tire area Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 As old cars go, the underside of that one is in very good condition, I think. Now that I've seen the rocker fix, yeah, I'd redo all that too. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 25, 2009 Report Posted November 25, 2009 Well.......I think that floor looks like it's in pretty good shape myself. Looks like mostly surface rust, except that small spot of rust through on the drivers side. I would just clean that up and weld in a patch on the drivers side, then paint and undercoat it. Would be just as good based on the pictures and a lot less expensive. A small piece of sheet metal is only about $5 or so. Quote
michael.warshaw Posted November 27, 2009 Author Report Posted November 27, 2009 some better pics of the car at the restoartion here in long island ny, and my powder coated frame. Quote
Robert Horne Posted November 28, 2009 Report Posted November 28, 2009 There is no reason not drive a vehicle, while doing a Frame-Off. Quote
