Dan Babb Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Wow...it's the easy stuff that winds up taking days. I spent about way too long getting this item checked off the list, but it's finally done. Swapped out the mis-matched door handles for a set I bought off a forum member. Took a new cobalt drill bit to get the last pin out of the door handle. I painted the door panels using the closest color that matches my seat that I could find. Also sprayed a bunch of liquid wrench on the window gears/slides. That actually worked and the windows roll-up a lot easier. The driver side feels like the gear is slipping, so I may need to replace that side if it drives me nuts. This weekend, I also finished my clean-up and repainting of the side steps and the front bumper. I used a flat black so it matched the well-used look of the truck. Tires and brake lights are next. I just noticed that there's no turn signal indicator on the steering wheel. Was that an optional item when the truck was new? Here's a picture I snapped tonight. Quote
MBF Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Looking good-the color is very familiar! Turn signals were optional equipment at that time. A lot of folks added stand alone front and back signals with the front lights mounted on top of the fenders. I originally converted mine to use a dual filament bulb in the parking light housings, but moved them to the front bumper because I wanted to retain the old style switch in the cab w/o a lot of additional work. Young Ed Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Aftermarket turn signals are still available new. I got a great one at napa. Not cheap but seems to be a lot better unit then the cheapy ones people get at swap meets etc. Also for your window units liquid wrench isn't really a lubricant. Now that you cleaned the old gunk out with the liquid wrench I'd spray them with some spray lithium grease or something Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 Here is a picture of a factory original installed Dodge truck turn signal switch. It came factory on my 4 ton. There is one other style switch also. Factory installed turn signals are not very common on the Dodge trucks. Bob Quote
Dan Babb Posted November 3, 2009 Author Report Posted November 3, 2009 Thank you for the heads up on the Lithium Grease spray. I'll buy some on my next trip to the parts store. Maybe that will help the driver side a bit more. I guess I'll have to learn to use hand-signals again....although after reading the post about the sunday drive, I hope I don't get pulled over because the officer thinks I was waiving at him. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 No reason not to add turnsignals. This is the unit I bought. Can be wired to dual filament front and wear lights and works on 6v. Best part while not factory correct it is period correct. They have been making these a long time. Quote
