Merle my 46 pickup scraped the garage door on my house until I adjusted it to open just a little higher. So it barely fits.

Luckily the thing is holding out for the week so far, but don't want to push my luck ...

Did you get it figured out?

I sold my '04 Rubicon about three years ago... still miss it. It would go anywhere I was brave enough to drive it, big fun. Trying to figure out how to get another one when my Tahoe finally dies.

Hate to say it, but you guys were waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. ;) No catalytic converter problems, no fuel problems, no sensor problems. What is it you ask? ...Just my poor driving technique! (I've never been so glad to be the cause of a problem before!):D

I got to say today was really neat, got to meet Merle for the first time. He was kind enough to let me swing over and have him and his buddy Ken look it over. After a few pokes and prods Ken took it on the road and figured out the the large tires were mounted with a stock rear end. Since I'm used to the Chrysler, I drive the thing like a granny, and when the little light tells me to shift I shift.:o So on the freeway just need to keep it in third and fourth longer to get up to speed...Which explains why on the night I test drove the Jeep it was fine (because test driving it I drove it harder).:) So if you need any mysteries solved, these are the kinds of detectives ya' want!

Didn't solve the intermittent starting issue...but considering the last diagnosis, I think the only thing that needs repairing is the driver!:P

*On a side note, this was my first time meeting a forum member in person, and it was awesome. Merle and Ken are really swell guys, couldn't find anyone nicer if you tried. So just wanna say thanks to Merle and Ken, as well as the rest of you guys. Hopefully I'll get to meet most of ya' someday!:)

Btw, love the pic of the Jeep in the snow. Those Rubicons are nice...

Adam,

That's booth good news and funny news. Sort of reminds me of a salesman that use to work for us back in the early 80's. He bought a new little Pontiac T1000 with a 4 speed stick. Problem was........he didn't know how to drive a stick when he bought the car. Whenever you rode with him he'd either leave it in second or third gear so long it sounded like it would blow up, then other times, he'd shift too early and the car would buck down the street.:D He was so bad at driving that thing, his wife and daughter wouldn't even ride with him.:D

Have fun with the Jeep now that you know it's OK. Merle is a nice guy, like most on the forum. I had the privilege of meeting Merle, Bob & his wife from the Kenosha area, Bill (Claybill), and Ken Bartz for lunch on a Saturday a couple of years ago in January. Ed Gross was also there but I've known him since about 1995 or 96. Bill had about a 150 mile trip one way to make. He met Ken in the Madison area and they rode together to Brookfield for the lunch. All are a bunch of nice guys. There's also Tom Russom in the area but he was on vacation for the lunch, so didn't make it. I've known him since about 1995 or 96 too. He lives just a few miles from me. Ooops, almost forgot (sorry MacGyver). Met him about 6 or 8 years ago when he came over to pick up a rear end from me for his D24 coupe. I've also met Don Coatney and BobT when we were passing by Don's burg on vacation a few years ago. BobT just happened to be visiting relatives in Nashville at the same time. Met Don from northern Illinois from the truck side of the forum a few years ago. Also met Jim Leman from northern Illinois in Deerfield, IL back in the late 90's. Again, all a bunch of nice guys. Hope I didn't leave anyone out.

You know, I gotta take it back, Lee was the first guy I met from the forum, super nice guy...Drove all the way to Minnesota...Was spring really that long ago?!

Hopefully my driving isn't that bad...I always thought the reason my friends and family always offered to drive was so I wouldn't have to worry about gas...:P

In all honesty the only problem I really have with shifting is that I keep putting the darn thing in 2nd from a dead stop. Used to the Chrysler where 1st gear doesn't exist in the shifting pattern! For the record, I am a fan of automatics. My feet are too big for all those pedals down there!;)

It was a pleasure to meet you as well, Adam. I've met several members of this forum (along with the Pilot-House side since that's where I really belong ;) ) and I've never been disapointed.

I'm glad it ended up being something simple. Just a short driving lesson. :) I knew Ken would figure it out. He knows those Jeeps inside and out. By the way... he's got a load of parts here for you if you want to stop by again. I had to laugh yesterday, while looking over the Jeep Ken kept pointing out extra pieces and parts that he had in his garage that he was willing to get rid of. I guess I just should have had Adam meet us at Ken's house. He would have left with his Jeep packed full of extras. :D
