already got the motor and trans out, steering wheel and column out,

then next week the dash .I'll be taking taking pictures as I go and posting

to this thread for those parties that want to see me do my first restoration.

any tips, & questions would be much appreciated.thanks benny

yeh when i got the car dad went to town taking pictures, and i'll be taking

even more. another thing a person can do is if you have a parts car or the

same make of car you can see how the car is put together and compare and

contrast....oh that reminds me parts car!

hey guys i got the Restoration done!....no just kidding the picture is just what i want when i'm done.

for those of you who are fans of this thread quick update, since the reduction

of my work hours at work i havent been out there doing a lot, mainly i don't have the funds to progress just yet plus it's freakin cooled right now, and i don't have a heater out there...so unless i get a lot of ambition i don't plan on going out there till the $$$ comes rolling in again.

however brother and i did buy a 30 inch sheetmetal brake from eastwood, that

can do 18 gauge steel. later, benny

the Wayfarer had a for sale sign in it after the auction and the number on the sign was a number i could afford, and the Packards didnt...plus i didn't sign up for the auction in time...

i was looking for a Packard at the time...but the old dodge got my attention

because it didnt have a back seat?? so i wrote the phone# down, went home

got my copy of the Dodge story out and saw the 1002 production figure, called

the guy that Sunday and made the deal....so how i got it was kind of a fluke...

everything just fell into place...Plus i can buy Packards all day.....how many

'51 Sportabouts can you buy let alone fined???

but couple of mouths later i found the '47 Packard i wanted to get on cragslist...

day late dollar short i guess...

I figured i should show pictures on how i found her...went looking for

a packard and found a mopar...

Based on the one picture with the door open, I would say you found about 85% of a Mopar. That old girl does has some rot to deal with. You are a braver man than I. Good luck with your project and may your hours at work increase!

thanks, good thing i got the spare time and and the patience to learn how to

fix all that rot...i always said if the car didn't have a title and the top bows i would have never bought it ....

Benny: Looks like your convert is in about the same shape as mine was when I got it. Here's a couple of pic's that I called Yeek, Yack, and Yuck. If you're interested, I'll show you what I did with it...Mike..Sorry Benny, I guess I don't know how to post the pic's. I can e-mail them to you directly though if you give me your e-mail address.

Benny,

I admire the zeal with which you are attacking your project, and I can only wish you the greatest success. What are you going to do with all that 1" steel tube when you're done with it, build a fence around the car?

No kidding, I can't wait to see what you're going to do to it next. With the equipment you've brought in so rapidly you've evidently been ready for a challenge for a while, and although I don't see a stopwatch on your butt I'd bet you'll get this done fast and correctly in very good time.

Tally Ho!

thanks Randy for your kind words. the funny thing about today when i was welding up all those braces all my modern technology that i bought to make my project easier crapped out on me :(...the first to go was my holbart mig welder for some reason i didnt have any gas??? which is funny because i just bought the bottle and did very little welding with it...so my dad was helping me for a spell and he was getting on me why i don't figure out the problem with the mig??? i said "because i have no time for that now"...and grab my gas welder..and away i went...and i did weld a piece from the firewall to the frame

when that time came i fired up dad's old buzz box he gave me and finish with some old 6011...

the second thing to not pay for itself today was my new fancy band saw..the bade kept falling of it's tracks???...so i just bused out my handy dandy Milwaukee sawzal ...and went to town...

the moral of the story is you really don't need a lot of fancy gear you need know how...there are car builders i admired ( George Barris, Dean Jefferies,Alexander bros, and not to forget the Great Bill Hines) those men did a lot more fancier metal work then I'm doing with minus the technology... some food for thought thanks for reading Benny
