Rodney Bullock Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 We have Five Guys here in Alexandria, VA. I think it might have gotten started here. It is really good, but there is an expression: "Death by Five Guys." In fact, one time I went there with none other than our friend Rodney Bullock. Don't you remember that, Rodney? Also, it's a good thing I got to this thread late. Too many chances for off color comments. All I will say is that I believe the origin of the term "sliders" has to do with what happens a half hour or so after you eat one. Hey Joe we had a great time at Five guy's that was a good day:) MMMthat food was good. Hey Don did you see a sign that said you can only eat the peanuts inside the store I never understood why they have that posted:cool: Quote
Niel Hoback Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 They don't want you stuffing your pockets and carrying them out. Quote
Frank Elder Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Whataburger Baby! Doggone it I miss it... Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Rodney, my guess on the peanuts is the shells make a mess on the sidewalk. Also, rats. As you know, we have rats galore. What's wild is when the Potomac floods and the rats go running in a herd up the street to get to higher ground. That actually happens in Old Town Alexandria, right on the river. The rats down there are huge. Had rats under my back porch until I gassed them out with Gopher Gassers. That's a story for another time. If we ever go back to Leon's we'll have to stop at Five Guys again. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 Here in good old Joplin, MO we have a local one-only place called Stogey's Coney Island. Pretty much my favorite. Cheeseburger & Fresh Cut fries....ahh, yesss. We also have another local joint called Babe's Drive-In, home of the Chubby Cheese burger. mmmmm No White Castle, or Krystals, thank goodness. There's the usual complement of McD's, B K, etc. Even got a new Culvers in nearby Webb City. Pretty good, but not as good as Stogey's. Went to a 5 Guys in Nashville earlier in the summer....pretty good, but not totally impressed. I guess everyone has some good burger joint in their area. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted October 28, 2009 Report Posted October 28, 2009 We used to have a place in my home town called Gutsy Bender's. Don't ask. Quote
Captain Neon Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 I went to 5 Guys on my way through TN this weekend. I liked the food very much. The decor was a little spartan, but the fries are what I expect when I am told fresh-cut fries. They reminded me on the fresh-cut fries I used to down by the bucket at the fair when I was in 4-H. Norm's Coupe Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 We have a 5 Guys place here. I've never been there, but the wife has with a couple of her lady friends. She didn't think it was anything to write home about though. Obama must like them though. Guess he treated a bunch of his staff to lunch a few months ago at one in DC during an interview with Brian Williams (think it was Brian Williams). The two of them with his detail of secret service made the trip, and took them all back to the White House to eat. Quote
