Dave,

My battery hold down sounds like the one Young Ed mentioned. It's just a universal hold down I picked up at the store, and uses J hooks to tighten the bar across the top of the battery. But.......it's all coated with either rubber or urethane coating, probably urethane, except for the J hooks. If someone wanted, they could pick up a can of "Dip It" that is used for dipping handles of tools into so they are insulated, then brush that onto an original hold down that doesn't have a coating on it. That would prevent them being corroded by the acid.

Mike, It is not my wallet but.....$50 for the hold down, $50 for the tray....that's a lot of money, just to hold down a battery. Read to be eaten away by the acid bug.

I always keep in mind, if it was a modern car, what would the part cost. About double that could cost a not rare part for a plymouth as a rule of thumb if not available at Napa or so.

If it is more...I'll fix it with something else, mostly ending up with 10% of the cost it would take for that original. No show or auction on my car so....:D

Hey Ralph, I see you have an All-tra battery. Have you had good luck with them? I have not so I don't buy them anymore. Get mine at Battery Direct. With the All-tra I always had liquid on the top from discharging but do not have the problem with the batteries I now have.

Hi Robert, I've also had that problem.I had them make new cables and purchased a new battery at the same time. But,I agree, having liquid on the battery top is annoying and certainly adds to the corrosion problem.I'll have to try Battery Direct, also local.

Ralph, that looks like the right item.

Here's a pic from the parts manual. It calls the hold down a "cover".

Shows the inside J-hook bolt, and the tray. The part number shown

is 866-132. The tray does bolt to the little shelf of the inner fender,

and does indeed have a drain hole in the bottom, which is supposed

to have a length of hose attached....looks to be maybe a foot long

or so......to drain any corroding water away from the inner fender.

A possibly helpful note.....I don't know how many of you guys know this, but my

computer has in the lower right hand corner of the screen, a little magnifying glass

and a number....which should say "100%". If you click on the little triangle to the

right of "100%", a box will open giving you choices to magnify the picture shown.

When done, you need to click back on 100%. So, sometimes you can see more

detail in the photo shown. Hope this helps. Or, maybe everyone but me already

knew about the magnifier.

Bob, thanks for the tip about magnifying. I have seen that thing a thousand times but did not know until now what it was for. Now I will be able to see better.:P
