RobertKB Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 (edited) I have spent the last few days getting my '48 ready to take to the painter. I posted a few pictures when I just started but have since stripped her pretty bare. The last few pieces will come off once I have driven it to where the work will be done. Will also remove the seats and door panels at that time. Am seriously debating buying a wiring harness from YnZ as it would be easy to replace with everything out. I got a wiring harness from them for my '38 Chrysler and was happy with it. Anyway, here are pictures of my '48. It reminds me of what the car looked like when a friend and I (mainly the friend) first painted it 30 years ago. It was a crappy job then and has not improved with age. Pictures make the paint look way better than it is. It really is a 30 footer. Edited September 17, 2009 by RobertKB Quote
rolliejoe Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 paint looks great in the pictures. Quote
Young Ed Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Robert looks good. I found some headlight rings for you. NOS one is the pass side though Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 Nice car. I can't wait to see it when it's done. Interesting how much shine the paint still has 30 years later. You're going back with the same color? Quote
RobertKB Posted September 17, 2009 Author Report Posted September 17, 2009 Nice car. I can't wait to see it when it's done. Interesting how much shine the paint still has 30 years later. You're going back with the same color? Yes, the car will be the same colour. Paint is still pretty shiney although I have never waxed it. I know it was a basic enamel at the time but the car has always been inside since it was painted. Pictures do not show all the minor body work that was badly done, dust in the paint, scratches, and other defects. A true 20 footer if ever there was one. I will keep updating the progress of the paint even though I am not doing it. I usually go out most Friday afternoons and have a couple of cool ones with the bodyman doing the work. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted September 17, 2009 Report Posted September 17, 2009 My car will not be in a garage and will be driven as much as I can drive it. That's why I wanted to get the highest quality most durable paint I could find. I'd love to have a garage for it but right now that is not in the cards. Chasing down every last imperfection will wear you out, eventually. It's a long slog. But, possible isocyanate poisoning aside, I'm really enjoying myself. Quote
