hkestes41 Posted September 5, 2009 Report Posted September 5, 2009 Went to a local show today. No P15's or D24's but there were a few Mopars and Mopar powered cars there. This black 36 Plymouth was beautiful. Couple HEMIs The last bare metal A with the HEMI is owned by a guy name Brian Bass who builds cars for a living. I believe he leaves the car in bare metal to show his metal working skills. It was kind of funny though to see everyone with their spray bottles of spot detailer out getting their cars ready for the show and then there was Bass doing his clean up with a Scotch Brite Pad. Normspeed Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Nice cars. I sure like that coupe. Laughed out loud when I read the part about the scotch brite pad:D Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 On the HAMB, I've noticed quite a few fellows lately leaving the car in bare metal. At least for a while. Maybe some permanently. They look kinda neat. Quote
randroid Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Folks, There was an older guy who lived a few cabins away always bugging me to strip Pigiron to bare metal and apply linseed oil to it because 'it would last forever'. I wonder what sort of finish these guys apply to theirs? -Randy Quote
Jacqualine47 Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 The bare metal is beautiful in a steampunk sort of way (hmmmm... that gives me an idea that would be really cool but I'd never use...) - but I'd be TERRIFIED that it would rust if ever caught in the rain... and I believe cars should be driven rather than trailered. My $0.02 anyway. Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 I really like the bare metal look. But I'm curious as well about how they keep the rust off. It wouldn't surprise me if there's some kind of coating. I agree that these cars are meant to be driven. I'll be getting mine dirty, that's for sure. I was driving on 95 North yesterday between DC and Delaware and I was thinking, "One of these days. One of these days." Quote
Young Ed Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Could you just paint it clear coat? Quote
Po-Lock-N-Load Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 Could you just paint it clear coat? Yup, clear coat with a flattening agent. Quote
hkestes41 Posted September 6, 2009 Author Report Posted September 6, 2009 Bass definately drives his coupe. And yes, he does use a light oil of some kind to wipe it down with to help ward off the rust. Quote
HalfdollarMayflower Posted September 6, 2009 Report Posted September 6, 2009 A lot of those guys use Gibbs. http://getgibbs.com/about.php Quote

That 6 carb DeSoto hemi is the same set up I'm going to put in my 33 coupe. Quote
