1949P17BC Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 I think I spelled it right. Disc brake conversion on the 47, drum in the rear, orginal master cylinder rebuilt and resleeved. What size valve and where would you buy one??? Quote
greg g Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 most of the street rod suppliers have them. Do you need one? HAve you tried the set up without it? Rear brakes locking up prematurely? Quote
claybill Posted August 27, 2009 Report Posted August 27, 2009 i think they are 60 bucks from ot rod houses...but it is nuthin but a piece of aluminum with 4 holes and a brass nut. what a rip!.. i have one here rollin around someplace. no instructions with it. as they usually come with the disc kit. bill Quote
claybill Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 that's right...for power brakes. bill Quote
Joe Flanagan Posted August 28, 2009 Report Posted August 28, 2009 I got mine from Jegs. 2 pounds goes to the front, 10 to the rear. I understand they are used because the master cylinder is lower than the brake cylinders and this keeps pressure in the lines so you don't have a lot of pedal travel before the brakes engage. Of course, I could be all wet on this. It wouldn't be the first time. Here's a picture of my setup. Thanks to Don Coatney for his guidance. In fact, Don has a much better picture than mine. Quote
1949P17BC Posted August 28, 2009 Author Report Posted August 28, 2009 So, do I need a proportioning or a residual valve 2 & 10.. I need them because I have a low peddle Quote
martybose Posted August 29, 2009 Report Posted August 29, 2009 You only need the residual valves if you do not have "power" brakes. That's only true if you can make the assumption that all power brakes have built-in residual valves, which I seriously doubt. Marty Quote
