I have completely restored the fuel tank and went through it with a fine tooth comb. Also put on brand new fuel lines all the way up to the carburator. If there is a plug, then i'm one unlucky dude.

Have you checked the wire inside your distributer yet ? If the insulation is frayed or the wire is worn your problem could be cause buy it. It's the black wire in this photo top right.

You can also test to see if your vac. adv. is leaking by sucking on your vac. line from the carb end of the line and plugging it with your tongue. If the vacuum holds it's OK.

Ok, tried sucking on the vacuum line from the carb end and there was no suction.

I have another parts truck and tried sucking on that vac line from the carb end and I did have suction.

How do I get the vacuum pot off the distributer???

why not just use the distributor with the good advance??? It should drop in with no problems. Is it the same number as the one that's in the truck now??

Because the distributor on my truck is in far better condition than the distributor on the parts truck.

Not if it does't give you top end. Set up the old one drop it in and see if it adresses your problem. then you can make the changes to the "better" one. I believe you need to pull the breaker plate up to access the conection point from the vacuum pot.

I FINALLY figured out my problem!!! When I put my new points on last year there was a part in the box I didn't install that is a steel pressure plate that puts pressure on the points when installed. When I found the old box, that part was still in it, so I figured out how to put it on and took the truck out. RUNS GREAT! :)

NOW, I still need to know how to get that good vacuum pot of that rotted out distributer on my parts truck and put it on my good distributer.

Anybody have an answer?

Very simple. Two screws and it's off.....maybe a little keeper on the arm that advances the points. Easier on the bench though. Just pop the cap off and mark where the rotor is pointing so you can put it back in correctly. While it's out set the points and check the wires and connections.

I thought it looked simple to remove, but when I had the two screws off it didn't want to budge, and I didn't want to force anything. I'll take your advice and get it on the bench to work on.

Aaron , not all of the vacuum pots are the same . Before you take them apart , compare the distributor part numbers on the side of the distributor . There is a VERY tiny clip that holds the arm in place inside of the distributor . The best way to keep from loosing this clip is to do your work inside of a clear plastic bag . Of course this means removing the distributor and making a note of where your rotor is pointing before removal .

I had exactly the same experience, except my spring was missing completely. If you read back on this thread you will see where I suggested you check this out. Glad you found the problem. I know exactly how frustrating it can be. Good luck with your vacuum advance. There are many different types. Check out the appearance of the arm that goes inside the distributor body to make sure your spare piece is gonna' exchange okay. I have several here and very few are the same. None of mine have clips on the inside pins.
