Arthur1947 Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 I've awakened the beast from its slumber. Maybe I'll get to drive it tomorrow. Best. ARTHUR Quote
randroid Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Arthur1947, Was the engine hot or cold when you filmed it? I hope it was cold because that would explain some of the extraneous noises, but so would not having been driven for a while so this is certainly not a criticism. It does sound sweet for the most part and I'd like to hear it again after fifty miles. -Randy Quote
realgonekatt Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Sounds nice. Did you make the intake from a stocker? What kinda linkage is on her? looks like dual b&b's? Sorry for all the questions but im finally getting to the point that I can play with the mill and, I like that setup ya got. And im Not wild about the offy intake. Quote
Arthur1947 Posted August 15, 2009 Author Report Posted August 15, 2009 Its a stoker "George Asche" intake and exhaust manifold with bb carbs. The dual pipes do not go to the rear of the car yet, they are temporarily dumped under the passenger seat, hence the throaty noise. This a cold start with the choke out. I'm very excited to get it running properly but bummed because I'll have to sell it soon. Best. ARTHUR Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 I guess I'll ask the question......why is it you'll be selling??? You've done a lot of nice work so far. Quote

Bob, I hate the thought of it but my industry was hit hard. All the work I have done on this car was for my own pleasure. Hopefully it will fall into the right hands. Best. ARTHUR Quote
Normspeed Posted August 15, 2009 Report Posted August 15, 2009 Motor sounds great Arthur. That little hesitation when you goose it is just because it's still not fully warmed up. That's one of the cleanest flatheads I've seen. It would be a real shame if you had to part with your car. I hope you find a solution to the job situation that allows you to keep her. Quote

james curl Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 Arthur, my experience has always been that the money always disappears to never come back. If you just park the car and only do things that take labor and very little cash by the time the family is grown the car will still be there. Houses and wifes absorb money like a sponge does water, add children to the mix and you can't pour it in fast enough to ever fill the void. When I was a young man an older friend told me to never pay a car off without trading for another because once paid for the paymenbt dissappears to never be found again. Turns out he was right until my wife needed a car to go to work, we suddenly found the monthly payments. Paid the house off ten years ago only to never see the payment money again. Quote

james curl Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 The house that owns us was built in 1921 and she can require a large amount of maintaince, which I do almost all of, I did all until both shoulders gave out this spring, but materials cost an arm and a leg. I will be starting to prime windows to putty now that all have been stripped and the putty removed, only 33 double hung windows to do plus paint. Then I can finish the overhang and two of the outside walls that are bare right now. Then I can schedule the shoulder surgery for winter. Do not know when I will get the T-5 installed, next spring I hope. Quote
Troganin Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 If you have a garage to store it for free till you get through your ruff patch. Prehaps offer your services to fellow enthouthests to prehaps make up the money you would have gained w/ the sale. Thats how I got through college w/o needing to sell. Best of luck to you and your beautiful flattie. Quote
