Reg Evans Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Neat photo but I was only 6 or 7 when that photo was taken. Quote
48Dodger Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Yep, that's Reg's truck...I recognize it.....its yellow. 48D Quote
MBF Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 Wow-that's gotta be a record for a 1 owner truck-owned since I was 6 or 7! I thought the '53 Chev my Dad bought new (which I got when I was 12) was a record. Looks like Reg beat me. Quote
Reg Evans Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 OK Mike....ya got me. Actually back then I was into no door hard top sedans. Here I am with my first car. This one was fully optioned with dual side mounts, trunk rack, horn, tin can head light with battery pack, chrome hood ornament, power rope steering, vinyl top, and an uphill only braking system. Don Coatney Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Reg; This reminds me of one of the downhill racers I built at about the same age as you in the photo. I made this one pretty fancy. It was a 2X10 with a 2X4 front axle with a bolt holding it to the plank for steering both rope and leg powered. I used an old piece of cloth stuffed with grass clippings for a padded seat and nailed this to the plank. I then used a trench coat belt my dad gave me also nailed to the plank for a seat belt. I hauled this racer back into the woods for a run down the big hill. I hit a rut about half way down and the front axle folded and I went end over end. The seat belt and stuffed grass seat gave way exposing the points of the nails. I then came to rest with my butt landing directly on the bed of nails. Quote
Jim Shepard Posted October 5, 2009 Report Posted October 5, 2009 Looks like it might have been the construction of Disneyland. The scene looks like the old Tomorrowland and the Rocket to the Moon Ride. Quote

Hey....maybe that's when the term "I stuck the landing" got started. Quote

Nice ride except those hubcaps are not correct for that year. Quote
Reg Evans Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 You are right Rem. Good eye ! They were 49 caps that were found on road dead and only 10 years old at the time. The build budget was $0.00. Hey....I guess I was in to recycling before recycling was cool. Anybody else have a picture of their first ride ? Quote
