Have any of you T-5 owner/operators maintained your stock MoPar rear axles? Waddja do without a parking brake? Seems to me one is almost forced into a rear swap (as Shane has done with his Jeep rear) just to have this feature.

I'm sure one could safely park in first most of the time, but it surely wouldn't pass any state safety inspection anywhere. Here in Pennsyltucky, we do not need state inspection on vehicles with Historic plates, so I'm exempt.

Curious to learn what y'all have done with this niggling problem . . .

Thanks

I planned ahead on this issue and installed a Dodge Charger differential (almost a direct bolt in) at the same time I did my T-5 install.

Somewhere buried in the old posts here is a thread about someone who swapped mustang brakes onto his stock rear axle. That would give you self adjusting brakes with a cable operated ebrake.

Sorry, been gone a while.

My T5 is from an S10. As posted the S10 shifter is closer to the engine. I still had to have my shift stick bent a little so it wouldn't hit my seat. I have to fab a new shifter cover for the floorboard which was easy.

My ebrake is in original location with the lever but go to my blog to see details of the modifications for the newer Jeep axle and modern ebrake setup.

Nice job on the ebrake cabling. My 53 has the handle under the dash that you pull. Once the T5 is installed, I think I'll need to figure out a way to get some mechanical advantage to allow one to pull the ebrake enough to make it hold. I guess I could install a floor mount lever like for street rods but rather not go that route.

I swapped in a Ford 9 inch earlier this year. I've got a few pumpkins but am using a 3.50 right now. When I went through the rear end I totally rebuilt the brakes so they should operate fairly well.
