grey beard Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 What is always my favorite show of the year did not fail to make this pilgrim happy once again. Down side was lotsa' liquid sunshine. The place had gotten so much rain before Friday that there was just no bottom, once you pulled off the blacktop. We watched truck after truck pull onto the grass and spin out, power dividers notwithstandng. All those nicely Armorall'ed tires and nice clearcoated frame rails pigged up in a heartbeet when the driver wheels started spinning. What a mess! I'll bet there will be lotsa' pressure washing come Monday a.m. A military half track was kept busy pulling muddy trucks out of deep ruts. The good news was that on Friday the sun came out and we had a most wonderful weather day. I got to meet several forum members face to face for the first time - always a pleasure. Director Mike Fowler was there directing, as one might expect. Dutch "Vintrader" hisself showed up with a few nice pieces from Arizona for sale, just to keep his hand in, as it were. Good to meet you guys. Mike has the pictures to prove all this, too. The crowd was very light on Friday. The flea maket and truck corral were also off a skotch, likely due to the inclement weather. Didn't see another Pilothouse pickup besides my own, although there was a 1948 ton and a half flat bed -ex fire truck there with just 29K on the clock, for sale. Price went up since last year. Mebby they're appreciating, what? Really bad news was that Saturday morning early, just when things were almost dried out, the grounds got pounded with another inch and a half of rain in the a.m. What a wet letdiwn! All those hundreds of beautiful beasties gettin' soaked down. Didn't do the flea market one bit of good either. Here in Pennsyltucky, we've learned that when it gets really cloudy on a show day, . . . . . . we just let it rain if it wants to. Dratt! Quote
MBF Posted June 21, 2009 Report Posted June 21, 2009 Yes it was good to finally meet Dave and hook up again with Dutch. Funny thing- I was watching the entrance to the park and you couldn't confuse either of these guys as they pulled into the park! GB's pickup was just as he described it (well actually it was even nicer), and Dutch's rig with the long trailer with two of his vehicles was unmistakeable. The other PH that was there for sale belongs to Stanley Young of northern Maine. He has 4 of these that he transports all over the country to shows on a 40's IH KB12 that he has converted to Mack power. He and his son were both there-had lunch w them on Friday. Said he drove 450 miles hauling 24000 lbs of antique trucks to get stuck in the mud and was having a great time! We had a good visit, and took some quick photos. The weather was exactly as GB described it. There was the 3rd annual family cookout up in the back of the park on Friday night. I had a couple barleypops with Dutch and found out a little more about him-very interesting background. I'll post the pics we took as soon as my camera dries out! Quote
MBF Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Camera dried out enough today to allow me to harvest the few that I took. Here's the group pic of Dutch, Dave, and I, and a link to the rest that I took. Check the ATCA website in the near future for pics of this years' event. Here's the link to what I took before my camera drowned. Do ya think Dave's non de plume fits? http://news.webshots.com/album/573111777MgqTIl?start=0 Quote
Merle Coggins Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 Nice pics. That's quite a paint job on that REO. Merle Quote
Vintrader Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 (edited) Well Mike and Dave have given a pretty good description of last weekends Macungie Mudfest indeed. I thought I would post pictures of the Dodges I saw when it was not pouring. I also did a tour of the Mack Truck Factory Sat. morning and have lots of pictures of that as well and may post them on PhotoBucket for all to see. Mario Loya B1B Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 half flat bed -ex fire truck there with just 29K on the clock, for sale. Price went up since last year. Mebby they're appreciating, what?Dratt! Just curious. What was he asking for the ex-fire truck? Quote
Vintrader Posted June 23, 2009 Report Posted June 23, 2009 I did not see a price on the For Sale Sign but I have talked to him before. I think if I remember $10K Dutch Quote
grey beard Posted June 24, 2009 Author Report Posted June 24, 2009 Last year he was at Macungie and asked $4500 for the truck. First Pilothouse I ever saw with rusty chrome plated grille bars - likely from the fire department days. Since then it has been sitting outside and has deteriorated somewhat, and he's now asking $7500. The low mileage appears to be accurate, judging by how the doors close and the windows work - all looks to be fine, but I saw lots of single wires strung through extra firewall holes - mebby he had to do some workaround to get rid of the emergency electrical equipment - lights and sirens, etc. Four speed/sngle speed rear. Definitely 40 mph. top. AND, it needs a bed. The one on it is shop-built and all worn wood, except for one flat one-inch rub strip. I've seen nicer large trucks for less - and with dump hoists, as well. This guy's taking this thing around to shows from Maine on a KB12 Corn Binder with a Cummins power plant. Gotta be a better/cheaper way to sell a truck, IMHO. Quote
Vintrader Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I guess I am thinking of a Red one he had a few years back that was 10k Quote
MBF Posted June 24, 2009 Report Posted June 24, 2009 I saw this truck when Stan bought it before it was painted. It still had the red paint on it with the green interior. It is a very solid low mileage vehicle. The larger one that he had came from Kingston, NY and I saw that one in its original condition too. Starting with a good solid truck low mileage firetruck is going to effect the price. Stan is getting older , and I imagine he would consider serious cash offers. Mike Quote
